The Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) is the descendant of the United States Coast Guard, which was established on 4 May 1790. The U.S. Navys first ships were built at Portsmouth, New Hampshire starting in 1794; however, they did not become operational until 1805 when Commodore James Cook sailed into Hawaii with his HMS Discovery and USS Resolution as part of a United Kingdom-sponsored expedition that discovered and mapped the Hawaiian Islands. In 1837, Congress created the Bureau of Fisheries to manage fishing resources in US coastal waters. In 1916, during World War I, the Navy requisitioned Cruiser Olympia from Great Britain for service in North Africa and Europe. After World War I ended, cruiser Olympia was sold to France in 1920 and became Lehi's only warship remaining after the end of combat operations by both navies in 1945. Beginning on 1 July 1898, USS Arizona was commissioned into service as flagship of Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter's 9th Fleet Operating Area (9FOA). On 16 October 1898 Commander John Jervis replaced Rear Admiral Porter as 9FOA commander; Dixon Porter would remain commanding officer until his death on 7 December 1918 while serving with Carrier Division 10 (CDR 10th Fleet). From 15 January 1915 through 6 June 1917 Cdr Ernest Farragut served as US Naval Attache to Istanbul during World War I; he later commanded Destroyer Squadron 3 (DESRON 3) based at Hampton Roads Virginia from 1923-26 before returning home for rest and relaxation following hostilities ceased there on 24 September 1923. USS Utah departed Norfolk Va., 12 November 1944 for Leyte Gulf where she arrived 8 December 1944 as flagship of Commander Battleship Division 5H Task Force 20AGL under Rear Admiral Robert Hulse flying General George C Patton's flag. She assisted Task Force 20AGL throughout its landing campaign against Japanese forces at Leyte Gulf between 25December 1944 - 7 January 1945 inclusive providing cover fire for bombardment by Task Force 38 including aircraft carrier Lexington (CV-6), battleship Missouri (BB-63) , light cruiser Indianapolis(CL-5), fast carrier Enterprise(CVE-10), heavy cruiser Seattle(HAWK 2), destroyers Quincy(DDG 508), Chesapeake Bay(CHS 46)and Louisville.(APD 44). USS Utah decommissioned 14 February 1945 at Lingayen Gulf pending converting to an amphibious warfare ship capable of landing troops on land or waterborne craft afloat or ashore when called upon thereto; conversion was completed 6 May 1945 but no such call ever occurred due to her being converted instead into a naval hospital ship USS Essex .

Lehi, Utah is a city located in the Wasatch Mountains of western Utah. The population was 14,259 at the 2010 census. The name Lehi is taken from ancient Jerusalem, where records show that an early Mormon leader named Brigham Young had a meeting with LDS apostles on November 12, 1847. After his visit to Jerusalem and subsequent conversion experience, Young decided to move the LDS headquarters from Nauvoo, Illinois to this location in central Utah. The first Latter-day Saints settlement in what is now Lehi were forced out of their homes by Native Americans in 1847. They built a temporary shelter near present-day Meridian Creek while they awaited news of reinforcements sent eastward from Nauvoo. On December 10th, 1847, church president James Egan arrived at Salt Lake City with eight hundred men and women under leadership of nineteenth century apostle Lorenzo Snow. This group founded the city of Lehi on October 24th, 1850 as part of what would become known as the First Great Migration westward into new territory acquired by the LDS Church after its organization in 1830. Leadership changes along the way led to various locations being considered for site for Zion—first Bear Butte (1858), then Cedar City (1862), Fillmore (1865), Springdale (1868), Tremont (1870) and finally Lehi (October 24th 1850). Ultimately it was decided that LeHI would be home to both church headquarters and temple sites following relocations beginning on April 6th 1881 when President Wilford Woodruff dedicated Logan Temple near current day Millcreek Village within walking distance of downtown LeHI – making it one of just six temples officially designated during his presidency including Deseret News Building at 2500 West 1300 South and Kirtland Temple at 2600 North 800 East today’s Kirtland Square Shopping Center! Today many aspects which made life difficult for early Mormons have been preserved including Cache Valley farmland used primarily for grazing and irrigating cattle & other livestock; two creek crossings necessary for carrying goods over mountain passes between valleys; historic buildings such as Samuel Clements House still standing almost intact; evidence left behind by pioneers like Joseph Smith himself such as his well-preserved bedroom furniture & clothing
