Lehi is a small town in Utah, located on the eastern slopes of the Wasatch Mountains. The population was 6,604 at the 2010 census. The area that now makes up Lehi was first populated by Native Americans who lived in what is now known as Utah County. By 1850, most of this land had been claimed by the United States and Mormon settlers started arriving in large numbers. In 1851, Brigham Young organized a group of men to explore and prospect for new land in what is now Utah County. One result of their exploration was the founding of Lehi on May 12th, 1851. At first it was called "Hillsborough" after one of its founders and later changed to Lehi because that's how it appeared on maps at the time. The early pioneers were very successful in developing this new community and quickly became known as "the best settlement in America." They built a great many homes and businesses here including an flour mill which continues to operate today. In addition to their farming activities, they also developed heavy industry such as a sawmill and grist mill which continue to be used today. For about forty years (1851-1947), Lehi played an important role within the LDS Church and held several high-ranking positions within its ministry including president of Deseret News from 1904-1906, counselor general from 1907-1910, First Quorum President from 1916-1920, director of ecclesiastical affairs from 1923-29 and finally president of BYU from 1945 until his death
