The Coast Guard was established in 1915. The first Coast Guard stations were located in Lehi, Utah and Cedar City, Utah. The original mission of the Coast Guard was to protect navigation on the Pacific Ocean and coastal waters. In 1942, the Coast Guard began providing air support for American forces during World War II. In 1947, the Coast Guard transferred its jurisdiction from Northern California to Lehi County, Utah. In 1965, the United States Congress passed a bill that established the Harbor Coordination Center (HCC) in Lehi to help manage traffic between ports in the area and inland waterways. The HCC is still active today and provides coordination for activities at both Ports of Orem and Provo. In 1987, President Reagan designated Christmas Island as an inactive station within the Coast Guard because it does not provide essential services such as harbor access or waterborne transportation for ships carrying cargo across international boundaries. However, Santa Barbara Island remains an active station within the Coast Guard with responsibility for law enforcement activities on Santa Barbara Beach adjacent to Isla Vista Naval Air Station while also providing shelter and other recreational programming for sailors who visit that location during winter months. In 1888, the Lehi Coast Guard was organized and it began to provide services to the community. The first member of the Coast Guard was Samuel S. Rice. In 1896, a ship called the "Albatross" became stranded onshore and needed help getting back into port. The Coast Guard responded by providing boat service and bringing in supplies for the stranded vessel. The Lehi Coast Guard received its first station building in 1924. In 1951, a new station building was built on Harbor Heights Drive which is still used today as part of the Coast Guard Station Lehi-Castleford complex. In 1970, a new pier was built at Cove Point State Park which has been used by both local vessels and cruise ships ever since. In 2003, funding was allocated to build an additional pier at Cove Point State Park which will allow more boats and vessels access to the harbor during high tide events such as Fourth of July fireworks displays or other special occasions.

Lehi, Utah is a small town located in the U.S. state of Utah. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town site was called "Hinckley" by early Mormons and was platted in 1847 according to an ordinance passed by the Territorial Legislature on 6 October 1847. The name Lehi may have originated from this location or another nearby spot where Mormon missionaries were ordered to preach baptisms for those who could not find water or baptized individuals themselves. LDS apostle Orson Pratt thought that Hinckley would be a more marketable name than Provo, which had been chosen as the territorial capital and then later selected as the city limits ofUtah Territory. In 1850, construction began on what became Brigham Young University (BYU), one of America's first public universities and one of only two in Utah at that time. In 1907, Lehi became home to a branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) when it moved its headquarters from Nauvoo, Illinois to Springville, Utah after being driven out there by pro-Mormon mobs following Joseph Smith's martyrdom trial and execution in 1844. After years of growth and development thanks to investments made by BYU students and alumni, Lehi’s economic center has shifted increasingly away from agriculture into services such as engineering and business administration; however, some aspects Of local culture remain strong including music festivals throughout the year with live performances by local bands., Most notably, Lehi hosts several annual fairs which include agricultural exhibits from around the world., Lehi's history can be traced back over 150 yearsago when many pioneers arrived here specifically for religious missionary work.; In 1847 Brigham Young organized his followers into stakes or branches across western United States.; By 1870 there were over 100 branches operating throughout Utah Territory.; In 1886 BYU replaced Hinkle Fielding High School as LeHI’s high school..
