The Lehi Air Force Base is home to the Utah Air National Guard's 309th Airlift Wing. The wing was activated on February 15, 1947 as the 159th Airlift Wing. It was redesignated as the 309th Airlift Group on July 1, 1951 and then again as the 359th Airlift Wing on October 1, 1956. On February 9, 1959 it was inactivated when its parent unit at Salt Lake City Headquarters was transferred to Ogden. On September 25, 1960 the 359th Airlift Wing became operational at North Island Airport in North Olmsted Township, Minnesota and served there until its inactivation on January 30, 1966 due to budget cuts within the military. On November 14, 1970 an award ceremony forUtah's first airlift squadron occurred when Republic Aviation Corporation donated two McDonnell Douglas DC-9s (N-858) to be used by the 309TH AGW. These planes were reassigned to Northwest Airlines and were known as "The Navajo" during their time with Northwest Airlines. In 1978 a McDonnell Douglas MD-80C/DC-10A replaced The Navajo with a more advanced aircraft that would later become known as "The NightStalker". In 1990 United States Airways donated one of their Boeing 747-200 Constellation jetliners (N544UA) which had been retired from service with American Airlines and stored at Denver International Airport since 1988 when they had served Pan Am World Airways out of Terminal 3 there before being delivered back to American Airlines mainline use starting in late 1989 but only flying between Boston Logan International Airport and Dallas Love Field after American offered them for lease from Pan Am until 1993; however this offer fell through). In 1994 United States Airways donated another Boeing 747-200 (N717UA) which once again flew under American configuration for European charter operations before eventually serving operated by Spanish airline Iberia Europe beginning in 1997 both operating from Brussels La Haye using runway 17L/27R also serving Madrid Schiphol airport starting from 1999 but only flying between Barcelona Eurowide or Madrid Ondaimee his hangar located adjacent to Terminal 2(IATA code: LAS) allowing direct flights operate between those two airports even though he never took off from either airport! The Utah Air National Guard's 134th Fighter Wing was activated on 1 December 1942 at Lehi Army Air Field, Utah. The wing was redesignated the 134th Fighter Squadron on 15 December 1942 and activated as a fighter squadron. Inactivated on 31 October 1946. On 11 July 1947, the squadron re-activates at Ellington Air Force Base, Texas and is redesignated the 133d Fighter Squadron. Inactivated again on 15 September 1949.
Lehi, UT (27 June 1747 – 8 November 1812) was an American outpost on the Great Salt Lake in present-day Utah. The site of Lehi was first settled by the Jaredites in about 1620, and was named after Liahona, or "Elders". The city of Lehi was founded in 1847 by Latter-day Saint pioneers, who named it for their leader and founder, Joseph Smith. The history of Lehi goes back at least to 1620 when a group of Jaredites built a small settlement there. It is likely that they were inspired to name their new town after the ancient Near East city of Liahona which had been destroyed in a fire. In the early 1800s, Brigham Young directed his party of Saints from Nauvoo to travel upslope into what is now Utah Territory and establish a new home for them on the Great Salt Lake. On 30 April 1847, they arrived at what would become known as Lehi. Within weeks of its establishment, much excitement had developed over this newly discovered land. Mormon missionaries began preaching to local Native Americans and baptizing them into the LDS faith; these conversions increased rapidly as news spread about this great treasure trove waiting to be discovered within Mormon boundaries! The United States Air Force (USAF) is the air arm of the U.S. military and the largest branch of the armed forces with over 120,000 personnel worldwide. The USAF was founded in 1947 as a response to the Cold War between America and the Soviet Union. It is one of only six nuclear-armed countries in the world. The USAF operates more than 350 aircraft carriers, 140 bombers, and 200 fighter jets around the globe. The USAF has a long history of giving gifts to other countries as part of its commitments to international diplomacy and peacekeeping missions. In 1951, when American president Harry Truman delivered his first State ofthe Union Address, he mentioned that "the air arm of our country [was] providing supplies for famine relief in Korea." Two years later, on January 6th 1953, American president Dwight D Eisenhower announced that America would establish an Air Forces Agency within NATO to support peacekeeping operations all over Europe. This led to what is now known as NATO's Common Defense Program (CDP). Since then, the USAF has donated thousands of items and items related to air defence including radar systems, missiles and bombs; fighters, helicopters and training aircraft; truckloads of ammunition; tents; food supplies; medical equipment; toys for children; clothing for adults; educational materials such as textbooks and movies; electronic components such as radios and televisions;Software development kits (SDKs); military intelligence products such as satellite receivers or SIGINT capabilities ;and many more items which have helped contribute towards European security or stability.
In 1969, the USAF created the Military Aviator Award in honor of those who have made significant contributions to the Air Force through aviation. The award is now given annually to a lieutenant colonel or higher who has demonstrated outstanding aviation achievement at all levels within the Air Force.
Lehi was founded by Joseph Smith in the 1820s as a small farming community near the present-day city of Salt Lake City. The town quickly became a center for religious activity, and early Mormons built their first temple here. In 1847, Lehi began to grow rapidly as an LDS mission area, and by 1850 it had become the largest LDS settlement in Utah. By 1860, Lehi had also formed its own government and boasted a population of over 1,000 people. LDS missionaries arrived in Lehi in 1886, and within five years the town had exploded with growth due to its new Mormon population and burgeoning economic opportunities. In 1893, LDS apostle Lorenzo Snow announced that Lehi would be the site of an upcoming golden ageof Mormonism—a time when all members of the faith could live together in one place and preach their religion openly. This prophecy came to pass; by 1900 Lehi had more residents than any other LDS settlement in Utah. However, during World War II many Latter-day Saints relocated to nearby Orem because of the high demand for military servicemen among Mormons (and others) who were suddenly called upon to serve during wartime efforts such as lend-lease. As a result of this large-scale migration (and subsequent housing shortages), many businesses closed down or went out of business in LeHI between 1945 and 1951; however, recent archaeological excavations have revealed that much remains unchanged from earlier eras despite these struggles. Today, LeHI is home to some 3,500 people who are mainly engaged in commercial activities such as tourism or agriculture (though there is still some religious worship taking place).
Lehi was founded about 600 BC by the Lamanites, a group of Native Americans. The LDS Church announced in March 2003 that it had found an ancient record that proves the town was founded by Jared and Lehi.
