The earliest reference to a military installation in Layton was in 1878 when the fortieth Infantry Regiment of the Utah Volunteer Cavalry was stationed there. In 1907, the Layton Arsenal was established as part of an Army Depot Program and it served as such until 1941 when it became a Naval Ammunition Depot. The first naval gunfire support detachment located in Layton arrived here during World War II and operated from 1945-1949. From 1951 until 1957, layton had its own Marine Barracks which functioned as Headquarters for Marines stationed throughout the state of Utah. This period saw an increase in naval activity due to tensions between the United States and Great Britain over maritime rights at various points throughout the decade. The Navy returned to Layton after Desert Storm on 8 October 1991 following Operation Neptune's Spear which ousted Iraqi forces from Kuwait. As part ofOperation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, USS Riverside (LPD-3) arrived here on 24 October 1991 and supported Operation Headhunter which aimed to hunt down Saddam Hussein's regime supporters across Iraq. On 15 December 1991, USS Bechtel (LCS-4) arrived here with Captain James Epps commanding her; she served as flagship for Destroyer Squadron THREE during Desert Storm operations. During that conflict, LPD-3 received five direct hits causing minor damage but she still managed to reach her destination safe and sound despite being damaged several times during her journey. She played a major role in Operation Restore Hope by providing humanitarian assistance to affected Iraqis following their liberation from Saddam Hussein’s tyranny. Naval activity decreased significantly after Desert Storm ended but resumed somewhat later under President George H W Bush upon his inauguration on 20 January 1993 citing concerns about Iranian nuclear weapons development efforts within Iraq proper rather than Kuwait where they were previous encampmentseleven months earlier). The first deployment of ships permanently based at Navy Base Pearl Harbor Kaiulani commenced on 15 May 1994 with USS John F Kennedy (CVN 77) arrival followed by USS Coral Sea (LPH-7) on 12 June 1994 Vessels deployed here included USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 76), USS Enterprise (CVN 65), USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group Two Commander Rear Admiral Rickover (DDG 71), USNS Comfort (MSF 89) and USNS Juan de Fuca SSGN(DVQ 68). Finally,USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN 74 entered commissioning at Naval Station Kaneohe Bay HI on 14 September 1995 becoming Hawaii's third warship assigned thereto since 1959! With these new additions however, only LPH-7 remained operational at Navy Base Pearl Harbor Kaiulani through late 1995 before being decommissioned effective 30 September 1996 having served replacement periods for all six aforementioned vessels! During those eleven months prior to her decommissioning date there were also deployments of three other warships: HMAS Perthshire VCB(T 6293), HMS Oceanic HS(C 1026 & C 1183) & HMAS Melbourne HS(C 4752). It should be noted that while every other warship listed above departed active duty once their original deployment expired or transferred out of Hawaiian waters - HMAS Perthshire VCB(T 6293) never left mainland Australia; HMS Oceanic HS(C 1026 & C 1183) did not Deploy directly onto Okinawa but insteadtransferred off Japan’s coast; HMAS Melbourne HS(C 4752) only worked briefly out of Townsville Australia before transferring backported into Australian waters - note that this particular vessel has been incorrectly cited as “HMAS Perthshire VCB(T 6293))" throughout this paper thus far! It is likely that gift history began residing herein shortly after navy presence increased once again following 9/11/2001 due largely to our country’s continued involvement in Afghanistan undeployed ships have been accompanying our personnel there ever since!

The navy has also made it their policy to donate any surplus materials they may have from donated items into museums across America so that everyone can learn about this important part of American history.
