The fort was named Fort Davis and was used as a garrison for Indian Removal operations. In 1846, the Army constructed Fort Douglas on the east side of what is now Kearney City. This fort served as a depot for goods brought in by wagon trains from Nebraska and other states during the Mexican American War. In 1849, Colonel James W. Woolley organized an infantry battalion called the Third Infantry Regiment at Fort Douglas. This battalion was composed of veteran Americans who had fought in both the Mexican and American Wars. The regiment was moved to Camp Douglas after being redesignated as Company I, Third Infantry Regiment on October 1, 1849. On February 25, 1850, Captain John Sibley became commanding officer of Company I when Captain David Dickson relinquished his command to become Assistant Commissioner for Indian Affairs under Brigham Young’s leadership. The company was stationed at Camp Douglas until May 10, 1850 when it left for Stroudsburg to help quench lead mines there that were experiencing dangerous levels of sulfur dioxide gas exposure because of plans being made by Ulysses S Grant to open up Kansas Territory to white settlement pursuant to his famous “Wild West” campaign slogan. After arriving there, Company I helped clear land near what is now known as Soldier Field so thatueling new homes could be built there later on during World War II as part of Project Rosebud which led to the city’s designation as one of Chicago’s Historic Areas in 1977. On November 12th 1861 Company I disembarked at Vicksburg en route from Memphis Tennessee with orders to join Major General James Halleck's army quartered near Corinth Mississippi where he intended to march downriver towards Mobile Alabama before joining General Joseph Easley's army corps marching towards Montgomery Alabama which would eventually join Confederate forces under Governor Robert E Lee and fall within Confederate hands at Appomattox Court House Virginia on April 9 1865). After reaching Corinth Mississippi on December 14th 1861 they relieved Battery Wagner Lawyer who had been engaged in skirmishing with Rebel troops since October 1st 1861 along Mill Creek about three miles west of Corinth Bridge across Big Muddy River After two weeks rest they marched back into Chattanooga Tennessee where they arrived on January 6th 1862 under cover of darkness and proceeded directly southwards through Knoxville Pike unloading their stores at Millers Ferry then proceeding due east through Sandy Springs Road over Blackwater Creek bridge before bivouacking near Chickamauga National Battlefield National Park adjacent thereto) Captain John Sibley having previously been detached with Companies G & H (in support thereof) from Brigade Commander Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest's brigade which reorganized prior deployment thenceforward assigned thereto) remained here until ended service.) In 1863 Lieutenant Colonel Isaac JONES took commandof 3rd Battalion 3rd Infantry Regiment Iowa Volunteers and this unit participated in several engagements around Chattanooga including Battle Of Chickamauga/John Brown's Raid On Danville Kentucky August 1863 Private First Class Charles Cushing United States Army born September 24TH 1837 died October 16th 1863 aged 26 years killed or mortally wounded ). Kaysville, Utah is a small town in the Midwestern United States. The population was 9,690 at the 2010 census. It is located in Kane County on the banks of the Blue Mountains. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Kaysville were traders and explorers from Illinois and Kentucky. In 1847, John C. Fremont passed through Kaysville on his way to explore the Great Salt Lake Valley and named it after his home state of California. The town was platted in 1868 by George Roberts, a Mormon apostle who had come west to proselytize during the gold rush of that year. The name originated with an incident which took place there on July 15, 1868: A wagonload ofblack Mormons traveling from Boston via Independence Airport arrived at Roberts' store just before sunset, expecting to find their white counterparts waiting for them nearby. As they unloaded their luggage at one end of the building and began unloading groceries from another end, Negroes working in Roberts' barn began picking up nickels and dimes off the ground as they walked away; this led to remarks by some observers about how "the city's first white settler had done something like this." In 1916, Kaysville became part of Provo County when that county was created from parts of Kane and Emery Counties. During World War II many local businesses helped generate military supply demand within Utah through their production of munitions such as gasoline oil and ammunition; these companies have since been folded into other companies or are no longer extant. According to the 2010 US census, 93% of residents identify themselves as membersof The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints (LDS church).
