From its inception in 1961 until it was disbanded in 1995, the squadron flew over 1 million pounds of humanitarian aid to victims of disasters around the world. In Hurricane, Utah, Squadron Leader Don Christensen and his crew delivered more than 5,000 pounds of food and water to local villagers after they were stranded on a remote island during the devastating storm. Don Christensen is one example of an airman who has given back so much through his military service. After leaving active duty in 1992 he served as Squadron Leader for the 332d Airlift Wing at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio where he still works today as a Senior Airman First Class.

Hurricane, Utah is a town in Sevier County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Provo-Orem metropolitan area. The name Hurricane comes from a Native American word meaning "to cause to run away." The first mention of Hurricane in Sevier County occurred in 1868 when cattle were killed by a storm that hit the area. By 1888, it had grown to include buildings and a post office on the banks of the river. In 1893, an LDS church was built there and soon after another church as well. In 1906, Hurricane caused damage to some homes in town and $1,000 was raised for its reconstruction. That same year saw the opening of the first store in town - J & E's Store - which would stay open until 1963 when it closed due to economic reasons unrelated to Hurricane; however, it reopened as The General Store following its purchase by current owner Rick Hansen in late 2007. The community experienced two more major hurricanes before World War II: September 1938 with $2500 damage done and May 1944 with $7500 damage done both resulting in no loss or injury reported within either hurricane itself but rather because both storms destroyed agricultural areas adjacent to hurricane zones across central America such as Texas and Oklahoma causing widespread crop failures that caused millions of dollars worth of losses for farmers worldwide during those years. The town was founded by Brigham Young and his followers on the site of an old Indian encampment. By 1850, Hurricane had become a tiny farming community with about fifty residents. In 1860, Hurricane was included within the newly formed Provo County. At that time, Hurricane was known as "the most isolated settlement in all of Utah." In 1878, Hurricane became part of Ogden City when that city was created from parts of Provo and Sandy (later renamed Logan). In 1916, the first school in what is now Hurricane opened. That year also saw the arrival of a post office and telephone system. In 1968, hurricane destroyed much of downtown property but did not damage any homes or businesses.
Athletic athletes from the Air Force deploy in Hurricane, Utah to participate in an annual event that supports local businesses.
