In the early 1800s, marines were first deployed in Holladay, Utah as part of the Mexican-American War. At that time, Marines were recruited from local Mormon farmers and ranchers. As part of their service to their country, these Marines wore a variety of uniforms and equipment. They also participated in many activities such as combat operations and escort duty. In 1916, when World War I started, marines were again mobilized in Holladay. This time they served under the command of General John Pershing. From 1917 until 1922, marine units patrolled the Frontiers of Mexico and supervised border crossings. During this time period, marines also took part in important military campaigns such as San Juan Hill and Cerro Cano Mountain. After World War II ended, marines returned to Holladay for a short while before being replaced by Army troops in 1951. The last marine unit stationed here wasactivated on October 9th 1957 at Fort Douglas Army Base (later known as Fort Worth). The Marine Corps has since relinquished its jurisdiction over Holladay & its adjacent communities to non-military organizations including the UTPD Police Department & UT Recreation Department Since 1945 there have been two Bicentennial celebrations associated with Marines Deployed Gift History The first celebration was held in 1990 and coincided with 100 years since enlisted men from Utah enlisted in the Marine Corps! The second celebration was held in 2007 and coincided with 150 years since US Marines landed at Mazatlan Harbor during World War I! Holladay, Utah is a small town located in Weber County, Utah. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Holladay was founded in 1869 by Mormons who arrived from Holland. The town is named after Brigham Young's father-in-law, James Holladay. Holladay is one of the few communities in Utah that were not destroyed by the Three Fires Incident of 1864. Holladay has a crossroads location and began as two settlements—Hope Valley and Holladay Village—separated by a Mormon farm known as Sacred Hill. Hope Valley grew up around what is now the Holladay shopping center; Holliday Village developed around the railroad depot and post office square. In 1905, Brigham Young ordered all Christians to leave polygamy behind and move to Nauvoo, Illinois where plural marriage could be practiced openly under church auspices. The Mormon pioneers who had brought polygamy with them when they moved westward (and many others who followed) were forced to abandon their holdings in Utah when they left for Nauvoo. Some residents of Holladay continued to practice polygamy until it was criminalized in 1890; however, most people converted to Christianity or apostatized from Mormonism during this time period. The first pastor of First Baptist Church in Holmdel was Revs Jno Henson (1867-1947), John Wyleigh (1868-1937), George Fenton (1870-1935), Levi Smith (1871-) and Elisha Beecher Stiles (1873-) All four pastors served for many years before leaving for other churches because of differences over church polity disputes surrounding baptismal ordinances for women which were then being actively debated within the LDS Church at that time. In 1922 Dr John Wyleigh became pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church where he remained until his death in 1947 having baptized more than 3500 people during his tenure including 1000 girls under 16 years old; he also taught Sunday school classes from 1896 through 1938 He helped lead construction on Salt Lake City’s Kimball Temple during its early days as an assistant superintendent

In 1881, Holladay became the first town in Utah to be incorporated as a village. In 1912, it became an incorporated city. Today, Holladay is home to a large population of Mormons and other Latter-day Saints who live primarily in the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. The city also has several thousand individual homes and businesses that are used for various purposes such as farming, trading, manufacturing, services and recreation.

However, after the war Holladay experienced increased growth as a bedroom and recreational destination for residents of nearby Ogden and Pleasant Grove townships. In 1996, Hollarty merged with Harper City to form Holliday-Harper City Mayor Tom Barrett announced that he would not seek reelection in 1998 because he felt that "the times had changed".
