Holladay is a small town in Utah, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Provo–Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. Holladay was named for Brigham Young and his wife Julia Holladay. The first inhabitants of this area were the Bannock Indians, who lived along the Wasatch Front until around 1810. In 1847, Mormon pioneers arrived in what is now Holladay and began to build homes. By 1880, there were just 10 people living hereabouts. In 1909, a post office was established in Holladay with Wm Milling as the first mail carrier. The post office operated until it was discontinued in 1969. On July 24, 1916, World War I began with Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia; within days Holladay had joined the war effort as a result of its location on Serbian soil adjacent to Hungary borders! On September 15th 1916 local residents heard about an act of sabotage by Austrian forces against their Hungarian neighbor: when they went to investigate they discovered that some Serbian troops had entered their town unannounced and had pillaged and burned all sorts of property! A curfew was set for that night so that no more damage could be done and everyone returned home safely; however 16 citizens were killed as a result! This led to increased security measures being put into place including restrictions on travel within Hungary proper while supplies flowed into Austria through Slovakia! This event has been immortalized in song by American singer Bing Crosby where he sings "When You Wish Upon a Star" - "when you wish upon a star/you can make your wish come true/by going to Hungary!" Today Holladay functions as an agricultural community with many businesses catering to both residential and commercial users alike; most notably Hanger Landfill which services surrounding areas up until Salt Lake City proper while also holding events at Liberty Park regularly featuring concerts headlined by national acts like Metallica and Journey throughout summer months (see website link below).
