Holladay is a small town in Utah, located in the San Juan County seat of Payson. The population was 1,614 at the 2010 census. Holladay was founded by Latter-day Saints in 1871 as a wagon stop on the Sandy River. It became an agricultural center and growing community due to its location near water resources and access to railroads. The Holladay railroad depot served as a transportation hub for goods arriving from out of state until it closed in 1975. Holladay's economy changed after the opening of Interstate 15 in 1977, which connected the town with nearby Provo and Springdale. The Interstate 15 bridge over the Sandy River became infamous for its propensity to give rise to accidents, which caused extensive property damage. In 2000, Holladay voters approved annexation by Provo. In 2013, Holladay voters passed a resolution recognizing July 2nd as Independence Day and Celebrating Our History & Heritage day to bring attention to local history and culture.
