The Utah Air National Guard's 143d Airlift Wing deployed a gift history squadron in Highland, Utah on Dec. 2. The unit was organized as the 143d Gift History Squadron in 1992 and has been deploying gifts to military installations worldwide since its inception. The squadron's mission is to provide unique and memorable gifts to military members and their families through the dissemination of information about the United States Armed Forces and its personnel. The squadron has also traveled to numerous states throughout America for events such as holiday displays, reunions, and family gatherings.
Highland, Utah is a small town in the Wasatch Mountains of southern Utah. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. Highland is located on U.S. Route 191 and has a postal code of 82002. The first people to live in what is now Highland were Paiute Indians who migrated from central California around 1847-48. They founded a village called Kofa which still exists today as part of Logan County. A post office was established in 1881, and by 1907 the township had been organized into blocks with one block being named Highland (the original name). In 1924, Mrs. Florence Hargrave donated land for an open air swimming pool that still functions today as the Park Pool at Highland High School which became a popular spot for swimming and water aerobics after it opened its doors to students in 1926. In 1951, when Utah Statehood was granted to the state of Utah, Highland Township became part of Itasca County within that new county. However, due to general economic decline throughout most of Itasca County between 1951 and 1976 not many residents left Highlands to join other counties during this time period; instead they chose to stay put and maintain their cultural ties with their old home town while living elsewhere outside of Itasca County limits until1984 when creation of Cache Valley made Highlands included therein again as a municipality under Cache Valley Mayor George Geiger's jurisdiction in 1992………………………………………..
The Department of Defense (DoD) maintains a gift history for the Air Force. This history began in 1946 when the Air Force created the 1st Aerospace Forces Wing to support Bomber Command operations. The Wing was redesignated as the 4th Airlift Wing in 1958 and activated at Travis Air Force Base, California. In 1961, the wing was renamed again as the 3rd Airlift Wing and activated at Edwards Air Force Base, California. From 1964-1966, Headquarters USAF activated another wing called III Bomber Command which flew C-130 aircraft equipped with nuclear weapons over North America. The wing was redesignated as I Fighter Command on 1 February 1966 and operated F-104s equipped with nuclear weapons until its disbanding on 15 December 1970. In October 1980, General John Hultquist became Commander of United States Strategic air forces (USASAF). As Commander of USASAF, General Hultquist ordered that all wings be combined into one organization under his command. On 18 November 1980, III Fighter Command was re-designated as II Fighter Wing andactivated at Shaw AFB, South Carolina. On 17 December 1990 II Fighter Wing replaced I FighterCommand at Shaw AFB as USAF's only operational fighter wing after it was reactivated from reserve in early 1990 following results of the Panama Operation campaign - an air offensive against Panamanian military installations throughout Central America which saw significant losses for Panamanian forces

Highland, Utah is a small town located in the Weber County area of Utah. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. Highland is one of the oldest towns in Utah and has been around since 1847. The first settlement in the area was made by John Dickey and his brother-in-law, James Irvine, on December 20th, 1847. At that time, it was located near present day Salt Lake City. Highland started as a small farming community with only 10 residents. In 1850, the company store was built and soon became an important part of the community. In 1857, a post office was established in Highland and remained in operation until 1916. In 1861, a school was built and operated for three years before being closed due to lack of students. A church also began operations in 1861 which lasted until 1865 when it burned down. The first hospital opened its doors in 1865 and served local patients until 1870 when it closed due to financial problems. From 1870-1875, only animal husbandry business operated from another farm outside of town for health reasons due to many sick animals leaving town for treatment*. In 1886*, a new school building was constructed which still stands today* (*The current school building replaced the original structure which caught on fire during an agricultural fair). In 1893*, two stores were opened; one by Jepson Bros., Inc.* (*Jepson Bros.,Inc.) and one by Wotherspoon & Co.*(*Witherspoon & Co.). By 1899*, there were six businesses operating within Highlandtown limits: five general stores (Jepson Bros., Inc.; Wotherspoon & Co.), one grocery store (Foster’s Drug Store), two blacksmith shops (Ladd & Sons), one auto parts store (Henderson’s), and one hardware store (Hauser Hardware). In 1907*, heavy rains caused significant flooding throughout much of southern Weber County including parts of Highlands* (*Highlands had not seen such heavy rains since before they became a city). As a result of this event *(the first reported case of water damage from floods occurred at Valley View Cemetery)), many homes were destroyed or damaged*. Businesses reopened quickly but many people were displaced who either lost their homes or had to leave their village altogether *. A high school also opened up in 1907 named after Mrs Jane Hanks who donated $5000 towards construction*. After several years of1966-1968 classes were held at our old mission hall which later became Community Hall*(*Community Hall replaced our old mission hall which caught on fire during an agricultural fair). In 1979*, Highland High School began offering dual enrollment with Cedar City High School so that students could have more opportunities to study different subjects while still living within their home communities *. One year later we celebrated our centennial anniversary†(* 100 years ago today – July 17th 1896 – we celebrated our centennial anniversary!). We are proud to have been able to serve our community through education ever since!
Highland, Utah is located in the Weber County seat of Ogden. It was established in 1875 as a farming community on the edge of Bears Ears National Monument. The town became an important commercial center during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, aided by its location at the mouth of the Weber River. In 1912, Highland was chosen as the site for what would become America's first federal prison, Fort Leavenworth. The prison operated from 1912 until it was closed in 1938.
