Over time, rifle sales have become an important part of Herriman’s economy as they have helped support both the local government and businesses within the townFteller Arms Company opened its doors for business on October 11th, 1905; First National Armory opened their doors on December 2nd, 1912; Gadsden Arsenal arrived into town on February 22nd 1915; American Sporting Goods Corporation arrived into town on May 5th 1915; ammunition stores such as Browning & Wesson Ammo came into town starting on July 1st 1914; Armoury Ammunition store started operations on October 12th 1918 (later renamed United States Rifle Company). In the early 20th century, it became a citrus orchards and packing center due to its location on the Middle Fork of the Wasatch River. The industry declined after World War II but has revived since 2000 with production of natural sugar beets and other crops near Provo. The history of Herriman begins with John Herriman who arrived in 1887 from Ireland to start a small farming community on the Middle Fork of the Wasatch River in what is now San Juan County, Utah. By 1907, he had moved his herd of cows and sheep to what is now Main Street in present-day Herriman. In 1911, he sold his land for $2,000 to Wm Fenton which established Fenton Orchard Company which continued growing oranges until 1934 when it merged with another company to become First National Orchard Co., Incorporated (FONCO).
