Farmington, Utah is known as the "City of Churches" for its large number of religious denominations. The city was founded in 1847 by Latter-day Saints, who built a monastery and other churches. The city's first coffee house was opened in 1852. The first commercially successful coffeehouse in Farmington was the CoffeeHouse at Fourth and Main Streets in 1865. In 1906, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir began services at the Salt Lake Temple, which necessitated the opening of a second coffee house on State Street near Temple Square. By 1912, there were over thirty coffeehouses operating in Farmington. The early days of café culture were difficult for farmers to sustain with few customers coming to their establishments to purchase coffee beans or tea. However, with the arrival of World War I and increased demand from soldiers stationed overseas, cafés became an important resource for local war effort; they served as bazaars where soldiers could buy goods such as cigarettes and food. Between 1918 and 1924, more than one hundred cafés operated throughout Utah alone; many of these places continue to operate today as cafes or wine bars catering to locals and tourists alike. After World War II, cafés slowly lost their popularity due to technological advances which made it easier for people to find restaurants that offered better quality food without having to leave their homes; however, some Cafes still maintain a presence within town limits today thanks to their unique history and architecture. Onesuch Cafe is called "The Coffee House". It reopened after being closed for several years due to fire damage caused by an arsonist in 1978.

In 2002, Farmington became an independent city with its own government and mayor/council system. The name "FarmINGTON" originated with early settlers who were looking for a place where they could graze their livestock during winter months while they traveled through southern Utah on their way northward to Zion National Park or Canada. When they discovered that there were no open fields within miles of town, they shortened their name to "FarmINGTON." The current spelling began appearing in newspaper articles in 1951 after Mayor Jerald Fenton published an article entitled "What's new around here?" which included a map showing how much growth had occurred in FarmINGTON since 1950! In recent years, many businesses have moved into or been relocated into downtown due to its growing popularity as an economic center for central Utah and Wasatch Front Region

Coffee beans were brought over to Rome by traders in the 6th century AD, and slowly began to be cultivated on the peninsula. By the 1st century AD, coffee was being grown in central Italy and was being traded with other parts of Europe. The first known reference to espresso dates back to 1453 AD when it was called "caffe Nero" in Italian because of its black color. Coffee became an official beverage of Emperor Constantine I in 324 AD. By 1547, coffee had become so popular that Emperor Charles V ordered all European troops be given a pot of roasted coffee each morning for refreshment. Coffee houses quickly became popular among soldiers and civilians alike, and soon became one of the most important social hubs in medieval Europe. Coffeehouses continued to thrive during the Protestant Reformation, and throughout the 16th century they provided philosophical thinkers with their morning break from theology classes with delicious cups of hot coffee (or tea). Coffee started becoming less common during the 18th century as brewing technology improved. However, it wasn't until 1795 that espresso finally replaced milk as a mainstay pour-over cup favorite across many cafes around the world – making it an instant classic!
