The Utah National Guard was organized on November 16, 1861, by the state of Utah in response to the Civil War. The first unit to be raised was Company D of the 2nd Regiment, Utah Volunteer Infantry. The company served in various engagements during the war, including two campaigns against the Navajo Indians. In 1865, Company D merged with Company K of the 3rd Regiment and became part of 1st Battalion, 6th Cavalry Regiment. In 1868, 1st Battalion became Company G and this battalion also merged with Company H from Brigham City (later Cottonwood Heights) to form 2nd Battalion, 6th Cavalry Regiment. On May 15, 1892, Companies A-G of 2nd Battalion were consolidated into 1st Battalion and redesignated as a National Guard unit under control of General Order No. 8 dated July 5th which read: "All ablebodied men who are citizens or residents aliens of any state within our borders may enlisted or reenlist in said battalion for three years." Enlistment began on July 20th and continued until August 12th; however at some point all but one company had been discharged due to lack of volunteers or injuries sustained during military service. The battalion lost its designated title on October 10th when it was redesignated as Companies B-F in order to better reflect its composition changes since organization. On December 9th companies B-F were again combined into 1st Battalion which remained under control of General Order No. 8 until 1909 when it was redesignated as Companies I-J in order to better reflectironclad battle experience gained from participation in World War I and II operations against Japanese forces on Manus Island (the Battle for Morotai). On January 1st 1910 Companies K-M were consolidated into 1st Battalion which continued under control of General Order No. 8 until 1912 when it was redesignated as Companies N-R in order to reflect new warfare experiences gained from participation in World War I off Guam and Samoa while also participating in Operation Grease Lightning off Ulithi Atoll where they destroyed a fuel depot used by Japan's Combined Fleet squadron operating there at that time

The Utah National Guard was activated on November 15, 1896 as an emergency force to help keep the state's borders safe from bandits and other criminals. The unit remained in existence until 1959 when it was merged into the Utah State Militia.
Cottonwood Heights, Utah is a census-designated place in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Cottonwood Heights is located on the eastern edge of Kane County and is part of the Ogden–Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies east of Cedar City and west of Provo. The first permanent settler in what would become Cottonwood Heights was Leland Stanford who arrived in 1869. He founded Stanford University on land he had purchased from the Ute Tribe. A few years later, Brigham Young bought out Leland Stanford's share and established Brigham Young University–Hawaii on land that he had purchased from the Kaua'i people. early Mormon pioneers also built homes in Cottonwood Heights during this time; John Davenport and his family constructed their home in 1870 while George Hinkle built his house in 1872. In 1902, LDS apostle Lorenzo Snow moved to Cottonwood Heights with his family after he was called as an apostle to serve as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 1907, LDS Apostle Orson Pratt came to Cottonwood Heights where he started a Unitarian church which remains active today. In 1964, LDS Apostle David Oskar Smoot came to Cottonwood Heights from Salt Lake City and started the First Presidency Quorum Office Building there which still stands today! Cottonwood Heights is a small town in Utah, located on the edge of the Wasatch Range. The town was founded in 1872 by Brigham Young and his family. After years of growth, Cottonwood Heights grew rapidly during the 19th century and achieved national attention for its high-quality cotton plantations. Cottonwood Heights was finally incorporated as a city in 1903. Today, Cottonwood Heights is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Utah. The town was named after cottonwoods that grow near Mount Carmel, which is located about 20 miles to the east of Cottonwood Heights. The first settlers arrived at Cottonwood Heights in 1872 and quickly realized that they needed more than just some good cotton plants to keep their mill running. They also needed somewhere to live and work, so they set up shop on land that still remains part of the town today. By 1875, cotton production had become such an important part of local economy that it became necessary to build a school and other public infrastructure to support it. A second store was built soon afterwards and two churches were erected as well – one for LDS missionaries working in nearby Weber County (now Duchesne) and another for locals who wanted to show support for their new community. During the late 19th century, Cottonwood Heights experienced rapid growth due to its importance as a center for cotton production within Utah and throughout American West. It reached an all-time high during World War I when demand from America’s military increased tenfold; consequently, many homes were constructed with military surplus materials available free from whichever company owned them at the time – giving rise to what has come known as “Cotton Wood Wars” days earlier than normal because wars always created shortages which could be used by businesses anxious for extra business opportunities! In 1924, however, war ended abruptly with President Warren G Harding signing legislation abolishing conscription into American armies; this led directly to less demand for cotton products overall since soldiers no longer had access both then and now to produce such items domestically without having them shipped overland! Consequently, although there have been occasional upsets since then (euphemistically referred to as “the bad old days”), overall things have really changed around here since 1924! Today though things are slowly but surely improving thanks largely to advances made by Mayor Donny Bowers over the past few decades or so – he has spearheaded many initiatives that have helped make life much easier for citizens including: creating several parks/areas within our boundaries; increasing funding for local schools through taxation; developing blight removal programs; initiating numerous major projects like making our downtown area wheelchair accessible etc.; implementing policies aimed at attracting more businesses/workers hereabouts (aided by recent investments by private enterprise); boosting tourism industry through marketing efforts etc.; & continuing countless small tasks every day done simply out of love & concern pour encourager les gens !!
