Cottonwood Heights, Utah is home to the first coffee farm in the Salt Lake Valley. The beans were roasted and ground on site by local farmers until 1898 when a group of businessmen bought the land, started grinding coffee, and named their business Cottonwood Coffee Company. The company was ever-growing until 1902 when they went out of business due to overproduction. In 1912 however, Cottonwood Heights became part of the newly formed Deseret News Corporation which continued to operate their roasting and marketing facilities until 1978 when they closed down completely. Today, only a few pieces of equipment remain from that time period including a large water tank and some old ovens. The history of gourmet coffee goes back much further than this one facility however. The first espresso machines appeared in Italy in 1876 and soon after began appearing in other parts of Europe as well. By 1910 though, espresso had become so popular that it was being exported all around the world including to America where it began becoming known as Italian roast coffee. In America at least, espresso quickly became associated withexpensive high-end cafes rather than common grocery stores or restaurants which would serve generic teas or coffees like Americano or Dutch roast. This change happened largely because most Americans did not own cars back then and thus needed to get their caffeine fix from more traditional methods such as tea or milk tea instead. However even if you didn’t have access to a carbackallet during those days, there were plenty of places where you could buy fresh beans online or at conventions like trade shows like COMEX (the predecessor to CTX). As gourmet coffee gained popularity throughout the years through word-of-mouth stories and social media postings, different types of beans were used for different styles of cafes/restaurants/bars etc.. However even within these various styles there was always room for experimentation because people wanted unique flavors that no other brand could provide them with easily. The community slowly regained its former popularity as a stop on the highway until 2002 when it was annexed by Logan City. Since then, there has been little action taken by either side to keep the old community alive; however, it remains an interesting part of local history.
Cottonwood Heights was founded in 1892 by E.W. Harriman, a rancher and developer who also served as the first mayor of Cottonwood Heights. The town rapidly grew, becoming one of the most popular communities in Utah County. By 1916, Cottonwood Heights had a population of 1,362 people and was considered to be one of the "golden age" towns in Utah County. But times changed during World War I. The population growth stopped, and cottonwood heights struggled to maintain its status quo. In 1920, Harriman sold his share in the town to J.B. Haughton, who quickly increased the size of Cottonwood Heights from 1,362 residents to 3,521 people over the next decade or so. In 1940, after years of struggle against heavy industryrowth that had taken away much of the community's public land resources (and jobs),Haughton sold additional property in town for $100 per acre to become an industrial park with a population of 10,000 people by 1958-59 - making Cottonwood Heights one of the largest industrial parks inUtah County at that time. Despite these challenges over several decades - including a series of fires that destroyed some homes and businesses within Cottonwood Heights –Haughton's commercial success kept it vibrant into the 21st century and helped it become known as an "industrial city."
