In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln approved the Donation Land Act which gave ownership of millions of acres (acres) of land to American citizens who would settle it in order to provide jobs for Americans. This act allowed many people from across America to come live in what is now Utah. As a result, Cache Valley became known as “the Promised Land” because President Lincoln said that it would be “a site where new homes could be built for American families and Christian missionaries could proselytize”. After years of development and growth, Cache Valley reached its peak during World War II due to its strategic location between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. However, after the war ended, many businesses went out OF business because there was no money left over from government rationing policies. Additionally, industries such as mining and agriculture declined after World War II because technology started making these activities more efficient than traditional methods. Nowadays, Clinton is a small town with a few hundred residents who rely primarily on agriculture for their income. It has also seen some gentrification over recent years as developers have begun interest in purchasing or developing property within its borders
