The ClearfieldArmy Garrison was established in 1917, and the current facility is home to the 9th Infantry Regiment. The regiment’s history goes back to World War I when it was composed of a nucleus of veterans from Utah and Nevada. In 1929, the regiment was redesignated as the 9th Infantry; later, it became known as “The Green Berets” due to its color red. On July 4, 1941, during World War II, the regiment was activated and deployed to fight in Europe. After arriving in France on August 1st, they were quickly converted into infantry and fought throughout Nazi Germany. On October 15th they relieved American forces at Dieppe before being redeployed to Normandy on October 17th where they engaged in fierce fighting against the Germans until liberation arrived on November 8th. Following their return home they experienced several campaigns within different theaters of war before finally being disbanded at Fort Riley in 1947. Today, elements of The 9th Infantry Regiment still serve overseas with units stationed in Afghanistan (1st Battalion) and Iraq (3rd Battalion). Additionally, there are multiple unit-level events that take place each year including drill weekends which commemorate veteran service members who have passed away or are no longer with us. These drills provide an opportunity for our Active Duty military branches and reserves to come together and show appreciation for those who have served our country both past AND present.

Clearfield, Utah is a town in Cache Valley, UT, United States. The population was 5,671 at the 2010 census. Clearfield is one of the most populous towns in Cache Valley and has been for over eighty years. Clearfield was founded by Mormons in 1867 as part of the Great Salt Lake Valley region. The town was named after Sidney Rigdon (1775-1868), an early leader of the LDS Church who served as bishop in Provo from 1858 to 1860 and later as president of Utah Territory from 1861 to 1865. Clearfield's first store opened on December 3, 1867, just eight days after Brigham Young's group arrived at what is now Cache Valley following their long journey through the Rocky Mountains. At that time there were only five Mormon settlements in all of Logan County - all located near present day Logan City - with only a few dozen residents total. In 1870, Brigham Young ordered his believers to move into Indian Territory so they could begin proselytizing among the Native Americans living there. This order led to much tension between LDS and Paiute groups which continue to this day; Clearfield was one of many communities where Latter-day Saints successfully converted non-Mormons during this period. The first school in Clearfield opened on February 14, 1871; it was taught by Mary Ann Hardin until her death two years later. The first physician in Clearfield was Drs John Soper and James Fenton; both men died shortly afterwards from wounds received while fighting Mexican forces during Battle Of Palo Alto outside of Clearfield on October 8th,. In 1893 Interior Secretary Albert Howard made land available for pegged cotton plantations east of Echo Summit along US Highway 25A - known then as Red River Junction Road - giving clear evidence that Cache Valley had become an important agricultural center for southern Utah following its gold rush era boom some 50 years earlier.. By 1907 over 60% of local sales revenue came from agriculture alone with other major contributors including lumber production (10%), manufacturing (8%) and tourism (5%). The Rose Bowl mine failed catastrophically on July 24th 1912 when a massive rockfall caused an uncontrolled avalanche that swept across parts of Monument Canyon approximately 20 miles north-east of ClearFIELD village according to local reports at the time.. Over 1,500 people were killed or missing when this disaster struck centralCache valley leaving behind widespread destruction including barns, homes and businesses intermingling with muckfilled streets unfit for travel for weeks afterwards.; On January 5th 1915 President Woodrow Wilson issued Executive Order 10636 which closed several mines within 10 miles radius around Ogden City due to concerns about WARN Act violations.; In 1916 Union Pacific Railroad built its third line northwest outfitting steam locomotives with new rails able to haul more goods than ever before allowing Northern ore trains running through Cache Valley again.; On November 6th 1918 General Pershing announced Operation Crossroads which aimed at destroying German military installations throughout western Europe;; When World War II began America declared war against Nazi Germany on September 2nd 1939;; On April 9th 1945 American Forces liberated all remaining German troops from inside Japan within sight & sound range OF CLEARFIELD!
