The Centerville Naval Air Station, now known as the Centerville Naval Air Reserve Base, was a naval air station located in Centerville, Utah in the early 1920s. The base was used for training of Navy pilots and aircrews during World War I and World War II. In 1951, the Naval Air Station moved to what is now Kane County Regional Airport on the east side of town. It was closed by 1973 after been converted into a civilian airport.
Centerville, Utah (population: 20) is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Centerville is located on the Wasatch Front east of the Salt Lake Valley and northwest of Ogden. Centerville is home to Weber State University and was once an important railroad junction and commercial center. The town began as a small campsite on the edge of what is now Centerville Heights on December 15, 1875 by pioneer David Wittenberg and his family. By 1876, Wittenberg had organized a company for construction of a wagon road from Provo to Sandy but died before it could be completed. His wife Mary Wittenberg continued work on the road with her brother-in-law George Richards until they were both killed in 1880 while working on the route. In 1881 Brigham Young assigned John Sorenson to build a wagon road from Provo south to Sandy which became known as "Centerville Road". On November 8, 1886 Centerville residents voted not to annex into neighboring Logan because they felt that their town would Function better without more people coming than necessary while Logan annexed additional villages; this decision helped ensure that Centerville would remain an independent community through most of its history despite annexation attempts by other townships over time. In 1908 Centerville Merchants Association organized the first centennial parade down Main Street which enjoyed great success with floats depicting various aspects of local history such as pioneer life, centennial events including dances and picnics etc., school children's shows (featuring models), demonstrations by electricians/mechanic shop employees etc.. The parade route included stops at local stores along the way - one being Fidelity Loan in downtown Centerville where evening sales ended just long enough for participants to buy candy bars! In 1916 Centville merchants associations organized another centennial parade which traveled down Main Street again but this time ending at Lone Pine Cemetery instead of Downtown due to lack of space at City Hall. On July 4th 1918 portions of Central Avenue in front of Parkview Elementary School were destroyed by fire caused by faulty wiring within an electric heaters storage locker used during summer heat waves...the $2,000 damages done dented business reputation forCenterville for many years! On October 10th 1961 Centerville merchants associations organized their second centennial parade which made its way down Main Street once again but this time ending at Parkview Elementary School instead due to lack of space at City Hall; this event also featured open air displays highlighting local businesses along with performances by local artists In 1990s when Cedar Hills moved into town CENTERVILLE BANK closed its doors after serving residents since 1898! This left a vacuum in banking services offered within central UT which was filled primarily by Cedar Hills Community Bank located two miles north off I-15 Exit 207A). CENTERVILLE BANK reopened under new ownership in late 2009 after several successful years OF BUSINESS MODERNIZATION & COMMUNICATIONS!!
