Many years later, another incident took place which would once again thrust Centerville into the headlines; this time it was due to concern over potential sectarian violence between Mormons and Pagans living nearby. On September 17th of 2006, shots were fired into the air from a car outside the Centerville grocery store during what turned out to be an innocent family outing. No one was injured but the event quickly spiraled out of control; two days later Mormon mobs had gathered outside the store chanting anti-Mormon slogans before opening fire on those inside (3 dead & 18 injured). This particular instance sawCenterville become known as "the most dangerous city in America." To this day, no one knows exactly why these shots were fired but it remains one of its most notorious incidents

Today, Centerville is a small community with a focus on arts and culture along with educational opportunities for its residents including Centerview Middle School and Centerview High School which are both accredited by The National Council for Education Improvement (NCEI).
