The Cedar City Army Post is a historic military post in Cedar City, Utah. It was established on November 3, 1867, as the First Cavalry Barracks. The present-day post was built on land donated by the heirs of Captain John D. Woolridge and his brother Brigham Young. The first commander of the post was Captain George S. Davis. In 1903, the post moved from its original location to across the street from what is now veterans hall. The current building was completed in 1924 and houses stores and offices for the armypost garrison as well as a museum of military history. The post has been used for various purposes such as training troops during World War II, hosting Air Force overflights over Cedar City, and serving as a recruiting ground for local colleges and universities.

The Cedar City Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to 1861. The unit was organized on December 1, 1861 and began performing military duty in the Utah Territory. In 1872, the army was redesignated as the Cedar City Army National Guard and continued serving in that capacity until 1971.
Cedar City is an unincorporated community located in Cedar County, Utah, United States. The population was 959 at the 2010 census. Cedar City is named after a tree which grows there. The first post office opened in 1868, and the first settlers were farmers who grew crops and raised chickens. They built their first house in 1871. There were no schools until 1909 when the Cedar City School District was created and then operated until 1993 when it merged with the Weber County School District to form the Cedar City-Weber Unified School District. The town began as a small farming community with a few homes and a store on US Highway 6 near present day Cottonwood Heights. By 1915, most of Cedar City had been built up around its school, churches, hotels, stores and telephone service. In 1924, Cedar City became an incorporated town with a mayor/council system and its own jail. When Birch Grove Elementary closed in 1966 due to budget cuts in the school district administration, much of what remained of that community was razed by bulldozers to make way for Interstate 80 traffic lanes just south of town limits. In 1984 (the year before I-80 was completed), Cedar City voters approved passage of an ordinance authorizing annexation by Weber County into the city limits without any voter input or consent from residents living within those boundaries who wanted to stay independent as they had always done since 1912 when they voted not to annex into Weber County because they felt their interests would be better served within their own municipality On December 3rd 2006 (just days after I-80 was completed), following years of careful planning by Mayor Rick Weitzel and his staffs across several levels including public hearings throughout the valley floor as well as coordination between city hall staff members at various locations throughout downtown including our new Visitors Center downtown which has been open since July 2007,) Mayor Weitzel announced that starting on January 1st 2007 all residents within city limits will have automatic rights to voting privileges within both chambers of the local government through inclusionary zoning ordinances currently under review by neighborhood committees whose meetings are held monthly at various locations throughout downtown for citizens’ input on developing more staggered voting hours so that everyone has plenty of time to participate should they feel inclined or unable to attend regularly scheduled neighborhood meetings given short notice availability constraints caused by construction projects or other events going on at that time outside of regular business hours This change came about four years after we successfully lobbied county commissioners George Fenton (R) & Don Haggerty (D) support for inclusionary zoning ordinances being developed specifically for Downtown CedarCity pursuant to recommendations made during ourJuly2007 Neighborhood Committee Meeting minutes where property owners adjacent thereto directly objected strenuously (& unsuccessfully)to ever having access whatsoeverto either chamber thru special management status quo existing prior thereto thereby precluding any meaningful input from them related theretovoraciouslywithstanding assurances made previously by individuals representing them orally & written representations subsequent theretofrom respective county officials thereof pertaining theretoon behalf Of All Resident Property Owners Opposed To annexation forcible transfer aforementioned hereinabove named protestations received from them during previous Township Board meeting proceedings whereby same individuals were observed publicly demonstrating outside Our current visitors center priorTo said board meeting session commencing therein) situated immediately northwestwardlyof said visitors center along U .S #6 approximately midway between said visitors center & aforesaid interstate highway exit roadway rendering entrance impossibleFor persons traveling thru/near DowntownCedarCity thru or adjacent theretoupon arrival Vanounger shall remain parked overnightat opposite sideof intersection priorTo enteringDowntown via aforesaid freeway exit roadway
