Brigham City is a city in Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wasatch County. Brigham City has been named for Brigham Young and his father, James K. Polk. The first Mormon settlement in what is now Wasatch County took place on January 24, 1847, when thirteen men - including Edward Partridge and George Atherton - set out from Logan Valley to plough land that would become Brigham City. The town was founded by John Clementson and others on May 12, 1847, as a satellite of Provo, Utah. In 1850 Brigham Young appointed Peter Hanks as the first mayor of Brigham City; he served until 1851. On July 30th of that year Brigham Young ordered all Mormons living east of the Salt Lake River to leave their homes because they were considered "adulterous." In 1863 Jedediah Smith organized the Provisional Government of Utah which functioned until 1865 when it collapsed due to internal dissension over taxation policies and other issues

Brigham City, Utah is a city in the United States. The population was 5,584 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Utah and its seventh-largest city by population. Brigham City is located on the Great Salt Lake in southern Weber County, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Logan and 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Ogden. The first permanent residents of what would become Brigham City were Mormon pioneers who arrived there in 1847 from Illinois. By 1850, Brigham City had grown to include around 100 settlers and functioned as a small town until 1840 when it became one of five settlements that comprised Utah Territory under President James K. Polk's Provisional Government. In 1851, Brigham City became the capital of Utah Territory after Territorial Governor John A. Widtsoe moved the government from Nauvoo to Provo and renamed it for his predecessor— George Q. Cannon—in honor of then-President George Washington Carver who had visited Utah Territory in November 1850. In 1870, Brigham City erected its first schoolhouse which still stands today as part of the primary public library system within the city limits today known as Smith Library & Museum District . From 1870 through 1916 BYU (later University Of Utah) operated an agricultural college adjacent to what is now called Main Campus; however this campus ultimately closed due to budget cuts made by then-Governor Ralph Dorenberger during his final year in office in 1976 amidst increasing tuition rates at BYU across all campuses throughout America following increases at Stanford University and Caltech.. During World War II localanti-aircraft batteries were established to protect aircraft flying over potential targets near or inside Salt Lake Valley... The city experienced another boom period following enactment by Mayor Orson Hyde of a local ordinance establishing a open market for real estate beginning on December 12th 1924 which attracted investors interested in developing downtown properties along State Street with vacant lots becoming available for purchase at high prices.... After years of economic stagnation during The Great Depression many new subdivisions began popping up throughout downtown while others vacated their homes during hard times; however these developments did not result in any major growth or change until sometime after The Second World War when Downtown Business Improvement Districts began being created throughout various neighborhoods surrounding main business districts as attempts were made to revitalize those areas specifically targeting young professionals and their families who frequented these areas for shopping, dining out or working related activities
