Bountiful, Utah is the 8th largest city in Utah and the county seat of Logan County. The population was 537 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Weber and Davis Counties, about 20 miles north ofSalt Lake City. The town was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847 as Fort Bridger. In 1850, it became a settlement known as Bountiful after an abundance of fruit trees near the town. The name change followed a proposal from Brigham Young to rename Fort Bridger for his hometown, Boston, Massachusetts. As early as 1853, cattle driven through Bountiful were being sold at $5 per head by local merchants to miners and other prospectors in nearby Salt Lake City. Bountiful, Utah is a city in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 3,724 at the 2010 census. It is named after the biblical Bountiful. The area now known as Bountiful was part of the Great Salt Lake Valley when it was discovered by Joseph Smith in 1847. In 1850, Brigham Young's forces drove out the Mexican settlers and founded Fort Bridger on Nowicki Mesa in what is now Ogden Township. In 1851, Brigham Young transferred the seat of government from Nauvoo to Bountiful for economic reasons and renamed it after himself. Mormons were not allowed to hold public office or own land outside of Deseret; so when Brigham Young died in 1877, his son George A. Smith succeeded him as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 1896, Mormon pioneers Hyrum Smith and John Dall began construction on Logan Creek Dam which would provide water for their farmsteads near present-day Logan Airport. Work stopped because of World War I but resumed in 1922 under Herbert Hoover as part of ProjectPickering which also added other features like a cable car system and a new town hall building that still stands today. After many years of development work ceased again due to budget constraints during the Recession but resumed again with help from LDS Church members who contributed money through social media campaigns that targeted local businesses and individuals. Bountiful was founded in 1847 by David Bountiful and his wife, Emma. The town was named after the abundance of bluebonnets found in the area. In 1861, Brigham Young settled near Bountiful and it became a part of the LDS Church. The first Mormon temple was built here in 1868.
