Bountiful, Utah is a small city located in Wasatch County, Utah. The population was 5,469 at the 2010 census. Bountiful is home to the University of Utah and Brigham Young University-Idaho. It is also the site of several coffee roasters and cafes. Coffee first began to be grown in this area in 1862 by two Mormon farmers named John C. Fremont and James Wittell. Coffee beans were brought overland from Africa by wagon train pioneers such as Daniel Webster and Orson Hyde. The first grocery store in town was founded by J.W. Marriott in 1892. By 1910, coffee had become an important part of the community's economy with several large plantations supplying local merchants with beanseeds and roasted coffee for their stores and households. In 1916, Bountiful became one of sixteen cities in Provo County that formed the Provo City Council; it would remain so until 1977 when Mayor (later Governor) David Oatman disbanded it due to budgetary limitations within the newly created county government structure). He named it after Mount Vernon in Virginia and was the first European to sight what is now downtown Bountiful. A post office called "Bounty" was established in 1868, but no town took its name until 1907 when Ethel Maud Huston founded the Huston School District No. 2 in honor of her late motherhood and early life spent near Bountiful. The first church reported for worship in 1872 were Presbyterians with Reverend John Waddell officiating; however by 1886 there were over 150 people attending services each week from all denominations here as well as from Kearney and surrounding counties. By 1910 there were over 1,000 residents serving in various churches and social organizations here including 375 missionaries working for missions around the world In 1905 Brigham Young University (BYU) moved from Provo, UT to this area which had been proposed as a site for the university because of its location between two major railroad lines running through central Utah Territory: The Great Northern Railway ran east-west through Kearney County while the Union Pacific Railroad ran north-south through Cache Valley connecting eastern Utah with western Nebraska and Wyoming The following year BYU became an accredited college/university with membership in both the Association of American Universities (AAU) and Southern Collegiate Athletic Association (SCA). In 1969 BYU opened its new campus located adjacent to today's LDS Temple complex on North Temple Street just outside downtown Bountiful Today Bountful has become one of America's fastest growing cities with a population growth rate above average for any U S city during both 2010 and 2015 .
