In 1863 Mormon missionaries came to Alpine and began the construction of Salt Lake City. After World War II many residents moved into city-dwelling surroundings in order to take advantage of proximity to jobs in Salt Lake City and other metropolitan areas. However, during recent decades there has been an increase in commercial activity in Alpine due both to its location near Interstate 15 as well as its growing reputation as a tourist destination for skiing and snowboarding operations located nearby at Aspen Ski Resort, Park City Mountain Resort, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Mammoth Lakes National Monument & Preserve and Bryce Canyon National Park. The first permanent settler in what would become Alpine was George Wittenheimer who arrived in 1849 on horseback following his journey from Stapleton eastward along Ute Creek Valley through Cottonwood Canyon into central Utah Territory. He named his new home "Alpine" after the high mountain range he had seen while traveling through that area some time previous. Other early settlers included Capt Jens Rasmussen (1850), David Kapp (1855), John Kapp (1860), James Sargent (1865) Hiram Sargent (1868), Elias Rasmusen (1870) and George Wittenheimer Sr.(1875). A post office called "Alpine" was established at this location on December 1st, 1885; it remained open until it was discontinued on January 1st, 1915. In 1910 an ice cream parlor opened in what is now known as downtown Alpinie which continued operation until 1979 when it closed due to health concerns about lead poisoning posed by eating locales such as chocolate milk made from raw eggs used at that time anywhere with raw milk production; however much later a new grocery store also reopened adjacent thereto which continues operating today under different ownership etc.. The old ice cream parlor building still stands today within the boundaries of downtown Alpinie although not currently used for any purposes aside from hosting historical events related thereto including weddings/bachelor parties etc.. A post office called "Alpine" was established at this location on December 1st, 1885; it remained open until it was discontinued on January 1st, 1915

The first Americans to come to Alpine were the Mormon pioneers in 1847. The town was founded by John C. Fremont and his party of scout leaders, who named it after Mount Hermon, a peak in central Israel.
