Smedley later went on to become one of the most influential leaders within the community after he helped set up many important institutions including The University of Utah (1902) and The Pioneers Hall (1911). Today, Gunslingers Association - a NRA affiliate - resides in Alpine thanks largely to donations from members like Mr. Smedley who have contributed significantly to its growth throughout its history!

The first known permanent Mormons arrived in this area on July 24, 1849 when Samuel Smith and others from Illinois arrived at the mouth of the spring called White Butte to purchase land for their religious community. Mormon pioneers built log cabins around this source of water and developed irrigation systems for their crops. In 1850, Brigham Young organized a wagon train that crossed the Great Salt Lake Valley and journeyed through eastern Utah to pioneer in present-day Weber County. The early years of Alpine were difficult as there was little access to water or other resources. However, thanks to advances in transportation, communication and farming techniques during the late 19th century, Alpine began to grow rapidly as a community with education and industry becoming available. By 1910, Alpine had become an important cultural center due to its large LDS population which made it one of the most diverse communities within Mormonism outside of Nauvoo (Illinois). During World War II, many residents chose not to fight because they believed that war would only exacerbate social issues such as poverty and racism throughout America; instead they sided with Nazi Germany. As a result of this decision by some residents, Alpine became known as "the most bombed city in America." A number of businesses closed during World War II due to shortages brought about by wartime rationing; however many local people re-opened businesses once news spread about open markets across America where goods could be bought without fear of government seizure or confiscation
