The Weslaco, Texas Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to World War I. The unit was originally organized in 1915 as the 92nd Infantry Regiment and served in the Mexican-American War. In 1917, the regiment was redesignated the 154th Infantry Regiment and fought in the 1918 American Civil War. From 1919 to 1925, the regiment was again redesignated as the 93rd Infantry Regiment and served in World War II as part of the 1st Cavalry Division. The regiment also participated in Operation Market Garden, Normandy Operation Overlord and Battle of Schweinfurt. After World War II, the unit was disbanded on September 15, 1946. On December 17, 1959, it reorganized as an infantry brigade under command of Lieutenant Colonel John W. Knoppersbach with headquarters at Weslaco Depot until November 1963 when it relocated to Fort Sam Houston Museum District Headquarters where it remains today.
Weslaco, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population of Weslaco was 717 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1887 and was named for Captain John A. Weslaco, who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as a scout for Ulysses S. Grant's army during the American Civil War. The first post office opened in 1888 and operated until 1907. In 1951, Weslaco became a census-designated place (CDP). Weslaco experiences hot summers with average high temperatures of 102 degrees Fahrenheit (39 degrees Celsius) on July 4th and September 1st; cool to mild winters with an average low temperature of 30 degrees Fahrenheit (−1 degree Celsius) on December 5th and January 6th. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Weslaco has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps

Weslaco is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler–Webb Metropolitan Statistical Area. Weslaco is located on the south side of Hudspeth County and borders Travis County to the east and north. It was founded by squatters from Mexico who were displaced during the Mexican-American War. In 1881, a post office called Weslaco was established in what is now Weslaco. The name comes from Spanish "weslayo" meaning "to wander." The first store in Weslaco opened in 1881, and it was known as The Dutchman's Store because it was run by Dutchmen who had been displaced during the Mexican-American War. In 1892, a school opened in Weslaco and became known as East Texas School for Girls. In 1902, a church also opened in Weslaco and became known as First Baptist Church of Weslaco. A post office called Westport was established at this location in 1903, but it did not stay open very long because its ZIP code (78801) already included Tyler. In 1913, a small airport named after former Hudspeth County Sheriff Dolph Ziegler began service at what is now Westport Airport when it was built on land that once served as an old cotton gin near present-day Westport Elementary School. That same year saw the opening of The Waffle House which remains one of Weslacos most popular tourist attractions to this day. By 1922, there were only two businesses remaining within town limits - Mrs.'s Cheese Emporium and The Waffle House - both of which closed within five years due to competition from bigger towns such as Tyler or Plano across the county line. In 1932, after more than 40 years of lack of development within town limits due to prohibition laws prohibiting alcohol sales inside Hudspeth County limits,[2] local businessmen organized a group called Texana Development Corporation with the goal of developing land around Red River Lake into new villages or communities that would be immune to prohibition laws.[3] On May 15th 1932[4], they successfully obtained approval from then-Governor James Fenton to build their proposed village on property just east of what is now downtown Weslaco[5]. However,[6] Texana Development Corporation failed to gain any support from either Hidpeth County residents or officials within Texas politics for their ambitious project; instead they disbanded shortly thereafter without having even laid down any plans for developing said property[7]. In 1935,[8] following passage by state legislators sympathetic towards Prohibition efforts throughout much of Texas[9], local Texans again organized themselves under the banner Texana Development Corporation with similar goals – however this time they succeeded in getting state government approval for construction onsite near present-day Mockingbird Lakefront Casino Resort; however despite this success,[10][11][12][13][14][15][16] development never proceeded beyond pre-planning stages due to political opposition within Hidpeth County until well after prohibition repealed completely across all US states in 1933.[17] In 1936,[18]:255 Hidpeth County residents attended a meeting held by Texans For Alcoholic Beverage Regulation which resulted in passage by state lawmakers providing alcoholic beverage sales remain restricted inside county boundaries; thus allowing development outside those boundaries yet still subjecting those living inside county lines to legal sanction for buying/selling alcohol should they choose so.[19]:253 By 1937Texana Development Corporation had disbanded once again without ever putting forth any real plans or intentions towards developing said land anywhere other than adjacent properties adjacent to Red River Lake - finally ending an era that spanned more than 60 years with no endin sight whatsoever until 2007 when developers resurrected interest (and money) once again surrounding MockingbirdLakefrontCasinoResort via 3rd party ownership[/20]
