Grant. This event helped solidify the town's ties to the Confederacy and its support for their cause. Webster is a town in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Webster was J.C. Hinckley who arrived in 1876 and named his new land "Hinckley's Fork." A post office called Hinckley was established in 1881, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1905, local farmers met to create the Webster-Wichita Falls Telephone Company which served as a common carrier between Wichita Falls and Webster. The company became operational on October 26, 1905 and provided telephone service to the community until deregulation of phone services by the Bell System on April 15, 1990. The railroad junction located just east of town served as an important stop for travelers traveling north or south to Wichita Falls or Denton respectively during the early years of this community's existence; however, by 1915 there were only two buildings remaining from when this junction operated: a storehouses on one side of the tracks and a blacksmith shop on the other side which both burned down around 1916-17 due to lack of maintenance by either party involved with locomotive operations along that stretch of track! During World War II many people decided to move away from agriculture because it had become difficult during those years with all types of weather conditions such as drought, floods etc.; however football players at nearby Midland High School continued playing their sport even though they could not attend games at home because no buses came through town; therefore football still continues today through various teams including Midland High School where most players currently play!
