Webster is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 623 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Webster was founded in 1881 by John Webster and his wife, Sarah A. Webster, as a small agricultural community on the edge of what is now Williamson County. The name derives from an old Cherokee word meaning "place where buffalos graze." In 1907, John Wesley Powell discovered Creek Fork Reservoir in Webster and named it after him. In 1925, when Barker Dam was completed upstream of Webster proper and dammed the creek running through town to form US 87 (now I-35), the town quickly lost its water supply; however, residents continued to use the creek for drinking and fishing until 2000 when the lake drained completely. The history of Webster goes back much further than that: two brothers named Daniel Webster founded a trading post called Webstersville near present day Georgetown in 1827. There are several early sources which attest to this claim (e.g., "A History of Williamson County" by JF Buchanan). However there is no evidence that any Websters lived or traded here before 1881 which would make their village anything other than an impromptu construction site close to their farmstead on Creek Fork Reservoir - henceforth known as Webster Village or simply 'Webster'. Webster, Texas is a city in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 12,539 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Williamson County. Webster was founded in 1859 by Colonel Joseph Webster and his family. In 1896, it was renamed to honor James G. Webb who had served as Congressman from Texas from 1893-1895. Webb City was established in 1901 by George W. Webb and his wife Anna Barnes Webb. They were two of the first white settlers in what is now Williamson County after coming west from Georgia in 1837 on horseback overland through Indian Territory and Oklahoma Territory to build Fort Worth on the Red River near present day Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. The Webbs named their new town for themselves since they had no children with them already living there in Georgia or nearby Dallas/Fort Worth during their time thereabouts as pioneers. The original settlement site lay within what is now downtown Webster because that part of the community which would become known as Business Park (later renamed Midtown) could not be built until later on due to lack of land available for farming and development at that time according to local historian Rick Hasenbush’s book “Once Upon a Time: A History of Williamson County” published by SMU Press in 2009 . However some key aspects have remained constant such as its wide open Main Street with plenty of shopping opportunities throughout all its businesses district while also having high quality schools like Central High School located just east of downtown – home field advantage for any baseball team playing there whether professional or semi-professional!
