The history of military gift giving in Weatherford, Texas can be traced back to the early days of the town. When it was founded in 1869, Weatherford was a small farming community with only a few hundred residents. The town's first settlers were men who had come to live in the area for the purpose of ranching and hunting. However, by 1875, when Weatherford became a city, there were already over 200 people living in the town. In that year, Mayor James Ladd authorized the creation of a military department within City government. This department would be known as "the Volunteer Department." The Volunteer Department was responsible for providing donations of clothing and food to local organizations fighting against Spanish imperialism. By 1880, however, things had changed in Weatherford. The oil boom had begun and new businesses began to open up throughout the town. As a result, Mayor Ladd decided that it was time for City government to become more involved in our civic life. So he ordered that all business licenses be given out free of charge to any new businesses that licensed themselves as "volunteer departments." This change allowed us non-profit organizations such as libraries and hospitals to start receiving donations from our citizens without having to worry about getting caught up in politics or losing out on potential business opportunities. In 1912, another important development took place within City government when Captain John Hodge was appointed headmaster at Our Lady Of All Angels School (O AAHS). At that time OAAHS served as both an elementary school and later also as an after-school program for children from homes which did not have access to either public schools or private schools because they were too expensive or too limited in range of enrollment. Captain Hodge saw an opportunity here and began conducting fundraising drives among his fellow businessmen and citizens aliketo support OAAHS' needs both financially and emotionally through gifts anddonations from individuals and families across Texans! With this help we were able to expand our instructional programs into second grade through high school; provide scholarships for students who could not afford tuition; build gymnasiums/auditoriums; purchase playground equipment; establish Wagon Wheel Drive (now called First Street) as a means of transportation between homebound students during lunchtime AND much more! Today we continue this wonderful tradition by conducting major events such as Homecoming Weekend each year where we auction off donated items from our inventory including clothing,... cars...and even furniture! In 1918, The coffee house was renamed The Weatherford Hotel after World War I veteran Colonel John W. Weatherford (1863-1928). Colonel Weatherford had been a colonel in the Texas Rangers during the Mexican-American War and later served as a judge on the Austin Circuit Court before moving to Texas in 1909 to become an assessor for County Hidalgo.

Weatherford is a town in the U.S. state of Texas, situated on the Llano River. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of Midland County and is included in the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Weatherford has been located at or near its current location since 1836. The first settlers in what would become Weatherford arrived in 1836 when Joel Roberts Mowers settled a group of men on land that he had obtained from Mexico for twenty-five cents an acre (1 dollar per square mile). He named his new settlement after George Washington Weatherford, who had helped to negotiate the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and who had died several years earlier while fighting with Mexican forces against their French allies. A post office called Weatherford was established in 1837, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1860. In 1840, John Wesley Powell explored and traveled through central Texas for the United States Geological Survey, and during his visit to Weatherford he offered to donate land for a school if it could be found within five miles of his exploratory campsite at West Fork Creek near present day Loop 410 and Highway 290.physical surveys were made but no donation was received; however some residents donated land to Powell's camp site later that year In 1845 local resident Isaac Watts sold eighty-eight acres (3 km²) around what is now Main Street to James Houston Stewart for $2U$10USD (). The Stewart family developed this tract into what is today known as Starr Road between Main Street eastward and FM 1960 northward). In 1850 oil well owners Wm Fenton & Sons leased ninety-six acres (27 km²) from Jno Hoggill for $4USD (), which became known as "Oil Field Road" because production began there in 1865.; The first oil well drilled here was Huffman 2b on July 14th 1870 by Wm Fenton & Sons Petroleum Company
