By 1945, all of Indonesia had become a republic and coffee production stopped due to World War II. However, this didn’t mean that Indonesia's coffee industry went away; many companies continued producing Kopi Ciuman (coffee milk) until the late 1970s when K-Cups became popularized in the region. Since smallbatch brewing has been so integral to Indonesian caffeine history, we wanted to take a look at how this unique process has evolved over time and explore some of the key early pioneers who helped define modern Indonesian small batch brewing: 1) Hendrik Verbruggen (1798-1868): A noted brewer and taster from Utrecht who helped shape modern Dutch smallbatch brewing traditions. He is credited with developing both pilsner style beers and dark roasts for use in Dutch cafes during the 1830s- 1840s period. 2) Jan Roggeveen (1805-1876): A brewer from Rotterdam who also played an important role in developing light roasted coffees for Dutch cafes during this time period. Roggeveen is considered one of the fathers of contemporary Indonesian heavy roast coffees - his blends are often used today within Indonesian cafes as a starting point for their own Coffeescript roast program). 3) Jens Wijnand (1792-1866): Another prominent figure in early Dutch smallbatch brewing who helped develop hop varieties specific to each country's espresso needs such as Zinfandel from California or Riesling from Austria – helping define what would later be called "international"small batch brewing practices today!

Because Mexican General José Miranda could not retreat due to lack of food or reinforcements, he capitulated and surrendered his army to Houston. This event marked the beginning of an American occupation of Mexico which lasted until 1848
