After the war ended in 1918, Waco experienced rapid growth as businesses opened up and people began moving into the area. By 1925,Waco had a population of over 1,000 people and was considered one of Texas’s most important cities. However, during World War II, Waco again came under attack from Japanese forces who bombed several buildings within the city limits. Despite this attack, however, Waco continued to grow rapidly during subsequent years until it reached its current size today with a population of over 10,000 people

In 1880 the town became a county seat and the name of the county was changed from McLennan to Waco. The city of Waco was founded in 1907 and it grew rapidly around the courthouse square. After World War I, many businesses went out of business because of competition from Oklahoma City. In 1925, Waco annexed the neighboring unincorporated community of Georgetown which had been formed two years earlier by merger of two other small towns in McLennan County.
