The Vidor coffee industry started in the early 1800s as a way to get cheap coffee from Mexico. The first Vidor roasters were founded in 1892 and began marketing their coffee under the name of "Mexico City Coffee." By 1914, there were over 20 Vidor roasters. In 1925, the first grocery store in Vidor opened and sold café de oro (golden coffee). It was around this time that Vidor's reputation for quality coffee began to grow. In 1937, Gustavus Stromberg announced he would start a new company called Svenska Kaffeetjänsten which would become one of the most important Swedish espresso companies. Stromberg's company continued to operate until 1997 when it merged with ABSA Sweden AB.

Vidor is a small town in Hillsborough County, Texas, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. Vidor is located on the eastern edge of Travis County and is part of the Austin/Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a small community of pioneer settlers in 1879. A post office was established in 1881, and by 1886, Vidor had become an agricultural center with hogs, cattle, and other livestock being raised. In 1907, Vidor became a city when it was annexed by Austin. In 1951, Vidor voted to revert to its rural roots and establish itself as an agricultural village with one grocery store and 10 homes. By 1990, however, Vidor's economy had shifted towards services such as health care and government for the growing metropolitan area around Austin. The population reached 725 in 2000 before declining to 571 at the 2010 census due to increased truck traffic along Interstate 35W which made travel Toepler Road difficult to navigate for pedestrians or cyclists. However, recent growth has seen new development including a hotel and several businesses Strip mall-style shopping centers have opened that are adjacent to large parks along I-35W creating some mixed uses near City Hall which has been used by various types of businesses like restaurants (Hilton Garden Inn), theaters (Griggs River Playground), offices (Travis County Sheriff's Office), medical clinics (Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital) and more since annexation into Travis County in 2014 In response to this new commercial development growth there has been a need for more public transportation within town limits with two bus stops located east of City Hall while also increasing funding for Sidewalk Bus service which runs every 15 minutes from downtown between Main Street & First Avenue
