Vidor is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,689 at the 2010 census. Vidor is the county seat of Medina County and home to the Texas State Capitol. The first post office for Vidor was established on December 17, 1892. The town originated from a group of settlers who migrated from Illinois to Medina County in 1881. In 1907, Vidor became one of the towns inTexan Cityhood. In 1912, Vidor lost its city charter but regained it two years later when Texan City proper merged with Vidor. On July 6, 1955, Texan City proper merged with Medina County to form Texan City-Medina County and Vidor became its remaining municipality. In 2000, Vidor voters passed an ordinance confirming that they would be accepting annexation by Houston if Houston were to become a state capital again under then-Gov Rick Perry's leadership. On January 12th of that year Houston annexed all of Medina and Travis Counties as part of their new state capital plan which included annexing Varner and other unincorporated areas within their jurisdiction as well as adding much smaller municipalities such as Humble and Spring Branch intoHouston because those latter municipalities had failed to seek annexation fromHouston during previous administrations due to lack of political will or money resources; however Corpus Christi unsuccessfully tried to annex also due to concerns about potential competition fromHouston's large harbor development project which would have made Corpus Christi one of the most powerful metropolitan areas in Texas if completed).
