The Texas Air National Guard's 145th Airlift Wing is the only air force installation in Victoria, TX. The wing was activated on 9/12/1943 at an airport near San Angelo as the 3d Bombardment Wing, Ninth Air Force. It became a unit of the United States Army Air Forces on 12/3/1943 and was redesignated the 145th Bombardment Group on 10/5/1945. The group flew Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress strategic bombers during World War II and also provided airlift for Operation Market Garden in 1944. In 1948, the group became part of RAF Bomber Command and operated Supermarine Spitfires as part of Desert Storm I and II. On 1 August 1957, when Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft were reassigned from RAF Bentley Priory to USAF Travis AFB, TX as part ofOperation Northwoods', 145BG was placed under command of 305DJ (Air Operations) at Travis AFB effective 1 September 1957. With headquarters at Travis AFB untilactivated on 12 November 1961, it functioned concurrently with 305DQ (Operations). The squadron lost its independence inactivation while being attached to 514MQ (Air Training Command). Victoria, Texas is a small town in Gregg County, Texas. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Lubbock metropolitan area. Victoria began as a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route in 1876. The post office moved to its present location in 1908 and the town was named for Empress Victoria of England who visited this region in 1879. Victoria has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cwa), with high temperatures year-round and mild winters that are sometimes severe enough to warrant snow removal during winter months. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Victoria has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps. The economy of Victoria is primarily based on agriculture and ranching although there are also significant contributions from manufacturing and service industries. There are two hospitals in town – one operated by Methodist Hospital System and one run by HealthSouthwestern Medical Center which is within walking distance of many businesses in town. The property used for oil leasing rights off the coast of Victoria includes some beautiful shorelines but does not provide much income or job opportunities for those living near the water’s edge because most jobs offshore require specialized training which few people have access to or can afford To create more long-term economic stability for all residents, it will be important for local leaders to consider including greater education opportunities within their community plans as well as creating an infrastructure that can support food production without reliance on outside resources

This plane had been designed as a bomber and could carry up to 4,000 pounds of Bombs, ammo and weapons on board. By the time it was delivered to the Air Force in late 1944, it had been modified into the XF-5A Triplane Fighter Bomber. XF-5A Triplanes were also purchased by NATO in 1945 as part of their postwar air forces program. They were used as fighters until they were retired from service in 1969.
