The first Coast Guard gift was given to the University Park, Texas campus on September 9, 1934. The gift was a new radio set and microphone. On January 1, 1936, the Coast Guard gave the first ever service grant to a university in the United States. The grant was for $2,500. This money would be used to buy radios and antennas for use by the Coast Guard at various university campuses across America. In 1937, an agreement was made between UT Austin and the Coast Guard which allowed students from UT Austin to join the Coast Guard as part of their naval science program. This program allowed students to gain experience with both military duties and civilian life aboard vessels of the Coast Guard. In 1942,UT Austin became a constituent college of The University of Texas System and received its own coast guard detachment called "The Auxiliary Patrol Unit." This unit patrolled coastal areas around Austin while also providing support services such as search and rescue activities when necessary. In 1969, UTAustin joined The University of Texas System again and received its own coast guard detachment called "The Auxiliary Patrol Unit II." This unit patrolled coastal areas around Austin while also providing support services such as search and rescue activities when necessary during daylight hours only. In 1992, UTAustin rejoined The University of Texas System once again but this time it received its own coast guard detachment called "UT Arlington's Coastal Detachment" (later renamed "Coastal Squadron I"). The University Park Coast Guard Station was established in 1907. The station is currently commanded by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and staffed by 14 officers and enlisted personnel. In October 2009, the Coast Guard Station started providing law enforcement services to the University Park community through its partnership with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
University Park is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 54,681 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of University Park Drive and the University of Texas at Austin campus located within it. The city was founded in 1879 by graziers who set out from Fort Worth to survey land for a new college. They named their new community after John Fenton, 3rd Baron Fenton (1800-1875). The town quickly grew into a residential and economic center on the west bank of Buffalo Bayou. In 1906, Uptown began to be developed as an upscale shopping and dining district on what had been farmland along University Boulevard east of I-35W. In 1962, University Park was annexed by Dallas; accordingly, its name changed to Dallas County seat of University Park. In 1972 it became part of the newly formed City of Arlington Heights when that city merged with Richardson twin cities then called Garland and Carrollton. The annexation caused some controversy because much downtown Arlington Heights remained unincorporated territory subject to charter provisions governing village form but belonged legally to Dallas County under federal law as did parts of Uptown which continued to be governed by Arlington Heights officials since that time. On July 1, 2014 Arlington Heights annexed portions of Uptown back into its borders resulting in a small increase in population over last year’s estimated figure- 47 souls (+1%). The annexations were made possible through legislation approved by the City Council on May 5th during its regular meeting following special session convened due to budget cuts effective August 1st

This year alone there have been several noteworthy findings including a vomit-soaked shirt gifted to a base commander in Alaska after he caught a cold while checking out some aircraft maintenance reports online,and a $5K donation to support hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria’s devastation

In University Park, Texas, the community has long been a part of the university. The area was first populated in 1836 by Scotsmen seeking to escape persecution in Scotland. The town grew rapidly after the opening of Baylor College of Medicine in 1881 and soon became one of the largest universities in the United States. Today, University Park is a vibrant center for research and education, with more than 60 buildings on five campuses. This history demonstrates how important Baylor was to the growth of University Park and why it remains an important community today. Baylor was founded as a medical school in 1881 by Drs. John Hennepin (1824-1910) and James Millington (1829-1906). At its peak, Baylor had over 1,500 students and employed more than 150 people. In addition to its medical schools, Baylor also established other major institutions such as engineering and law schools – both of which remain highly respected today. The university’s stature helped it develop strong relationships with local communities throughout its history. For example, during World War I, Baylor contributed food and clothing to soldiers stationed abroad; later that decade, they donated money to build a hospital in Palestine (now Israel). The city of University Park developments began shortly after construction commenced on campus in 1886. By 1925, there were over 100 structures within walking distance of what is now downtown University Park. As neon signs began proliferating across townspeople started seeing once unimaginable luxury condominiums towering above them on high streets near Memorial Stadium – these were all products of post-war suburban housing boomlet development that took place around Bearsville Road/University Boulevard northward from Interstate 10 between Loop 610E/I-635 eastward into Council Bluffs [now Plano]. While some portions of this developing area continue today within the boundaries defined by University Park itself – most notably along High School Rd./Butterfly Dr., southbound from I-10 past Loop 610W/I-635 eastward into Dallas County before turning northeast again for about another two miles along Elmendorf Rd./Highland Ave.; much or all current Downtown UniversityPark territory evolved from prewar apartmentbuildings located primarily northwest/southwest corner Of Elmendorf Rd./Highland Ave., between I-35W & US 71E becoming "Downtown" UnivPark following annexation by CityofDallas subsequent purchase by UnivPark Board effective 3Feb1974
University Park was founded in 1881 as a college town in east Texas. The first students of the University of Texas applied to and were accepted into the then-university in 1881. In 1923, the university moved to its present location on University Drive (now US 281) in what is now part of Dallas.
