Since the beginning of the air force, University Park, Texas has been home to one of the USAF’s three service academies. The Air Force Academy is a residential campus located in central El Paso, Texas. It was first established in 1947 and graduated its first class in 1951. The Air Force Academy took over responsibility for University Park from the Army War College on July 1, 1959. At that time, it was one of two service academies located outside of Washington D.C., along with the Marine Corps Reserve School at Quantico, Virginia. Both schools were part of the Sandia National Laboratories network and operated as autonomous institutions within the USAF chain of command. The Air Force Academy had an initial enrollment of just under 2,000 students when it opened its doors to cadets on July 1st, 1959. By fall 1961 there were more than 11,000 students enrolled at The Air Force Academyophysics school alone! In 1962-63 undergraduate engineering classes began offering honors level coursework which would later lead to graduate level coursework offered by The Aerospace Engineering School (AES) and other Schools within The USAF “Triangle Of Power” system including Maxwell AFB/ Alabama; Wright-Patterson AFB/ Ohio; Goldstone AB/ California; Elmendorf AFB Alaska; Offutt AFB Nebraska and many others across Europe and America...the days of basic military training at base camps or university campuses are long gone! In 1969-70 budget cuts caused enrollment at The Air Force Academy to drop below 1,500 cadets but this did not prevent AFA from fielding some very successful teams in both football (USAF Falcons) & wrestling (UCLA Bruins) during those years...during WWII only 3%+of all fighter aircraft built were used by USAF so even if today’s Cadet body size is only about 50% that percentage still means quite a bit! It wasn't until AFTER Major General James E Hance assumed command on August 26th 1970 that things changed dramatically for AFA...Hance had served as Commanding general activated headquarters Far East Command headquartered in Tokyo Japan where he supervised all Far East commands day-to-day operations directly responsible for all aspects related thereto including personnel assignments deployments overseas etc....in short he became what we now know as our "Air Combat Commander" !!!!! Needless to say his arrival had a big impact on daily operations here at AFAC HQ here in University Park TX...from then on things got much more organized with definite goals set & results achieved fairly quickly I might add !

University Park, Texas is a city in Houston County, Texas, United States. The population was 497 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–Sugar Land–Bryan Metropolitan Statistical Area. University Park was founded in 1879 as a small community on the edge of present-day University of Houston campus by Methodist Episcopal missionaries and businessmen. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century as cotton farmers moved to University Park from other parts ofHouston County to escape high prices for cotton in New Orleans and other slave-producing states. In 1916, Uppsala Lutheran School opened in University Park, becoming one of the first schools in Houston County to offer education beyond four years of age. The university that now stands on campus was founded by Drs. Jameson and Mclntyre in 1879 as Baylor College of Medicine and Pharmacy with an initial enrollment of 20 students. The college grew quickly thanks to its successful instruction in medical topics such as surgery and dentistry, which led to increased demand for physicians throughout much of North America. In 1912, Baylor became the first private university in Texas when it merged with Samford University (then known as Southern Methodist) to form Baylor College of Medicine and Pharmacy (BCAMP). Today BCAMP offers undergraduate degrees at both academic institutions as well as professional programs leading to certification from various health professionals including doctors, nurses, pharmacists/pharmaceutical scientists and veterinary surgeons; among others. A new building designed by Englishman Clark Gable became home to BCAMP’s School of Veterinary Medicine (now known just as VetDent) within two years following its opening; this institution has since become one of the largest veterinary schools outside North America. During World War II, General George C Marshall succeeded General Douglas MacArthur as Commander-in-Chief of Allied Forces Europe. Marshall led Allied forces against Nazi Germany and Italy; his successes helped convince Congress to establish the USAF in 1947. The USAF has been one of America’s most versatile military services since its inception, playing multiple roles in conflicts throughout history. University Park, Texas is located in the Tarrant County, Texas region. It was founded on December 12, 1836 as an agricultural and cattle center by Colonel John H. Smith and his family. The town grew rapidly due to its location near a major trade route between Austin and Dallas. By 1841, University Park had become a college town with six colleges and over 100 students. In 1916, University Park became the first city in Tarrant County to be consolidated with neighboring Fort Worth. The merger led to the creation of a new city government with a mayor-council system and enhanced economic opportunities for University Park residents. Today, University Park is one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas with a population of over 50,000 people. University Park has experienced many changes throughout its history including annexation by Fort Worth in 1916; several fires that destroyed much of the downtown area; rapid growth during World War II as military sites were developed within the city limits; and dramatic decreases during the 1960s when most university functions were relocated to other cities such as Dallas or Houston. However, through all these transitions, one common thread has been its dedication to community service through programs such as civic education and public health initiatives. Despite these challenges, University Park remains an important cultural center in Tarrant County thanks to its large population of retirees (over 60%) and its concentration of cultural events such as art festivals and classical music concerts.
On October 25, 1836, the first Texas school was opened in University Park. The school was founded by John Fenton and James Bowie. It was known as the Academy of Houston. In 1840, University Park became part of the new Republic of Texas and then in 1845 it became part of the newly created United States of America. The first university in Texas was Baylor College of Medicine which was established in 1847 by Alexander Graham Bell and other American scientists and physicians associated with Baylor Medical School. Baylor is also considered to be the cradle of American medicine. In 1853, a law degree program at Baylor was made available to students from all over America through correspondence schools.
