Tyler, Texas is a small town in Searcy County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–[Amarillo] Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tyler is named for Samuel Tyler, who settled there in 1847. The first settlers arrived in 1847 and were called "Travisians". A post office was established at Tyler in 1848, and the name originated with them. In 1860, Indian Removal began and many Texans left to live on reservations east of the Arkansas River. The original settlers of Tyler did not leave their homes; they just changed their name to avoid being associated with Indian removal. In 1870, a railroad was built through Tyler and soon it became a center of industry because of its location near the new railroads connecting Amarillo with Wichita Falls and Dallas. It also became an important trade center because it had an open-air market that could accommodate up to 400 merchants each day during early years of its development. By 1890, Tyler had become one of the most significant cities in Searcy County due to its growth as a manufacturing center for cotton goods related products such as textiles and shoeshine waxes

Tyler is a city in Tyler County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,882 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tyler County. The first people to live in Tyler were the Creek Indians who moved from Georgia in 1836. In 1845, George Washington Houston founded a trading post on the San Jacinto River and named it Houston for himself and his brother Sam Houston. The town started as a small agricultural community with about 50 residents around a well-mannered courthouse square that still stands today. In 1848, James Kenedy founded Kenedyville after purchase of land east of present-day Tyler by Ulysses S. Grant from James Bowie for $5 per acre (about $ today). By 1850, there were more than 1,000 people living in what is now Tyler and Kenedyville. growth continued until 1880 when a tornado destroyed most of the downtown then caused over $100 million in damages to businesses and homes along its path. In 1865, American Civil War veteran General William Tecumseh Sherman issued an order authorizing military operations against Confederate forces occupying Texas so long as he controlled the port of Moultrie near Memphis due to lack of options at that time for supplying Union forces with food or materiel beyond railroads or telegraph lines into Texas from Louisiana or Mexico City. The Battle of Tyler took place on July 6th when Confederate General Braxton Bragg's army attempted to cross the river near present day Insurgent Cemetery North Street just north of downtown during heavy rains as part of their failed attempt to flank Union General Stephen Longstreet's position between Elmwood Park Cemetery and Capitol Hill Cemetery southward towards Interstate 35E/US 90 Alternate which became known as "The Blood Trail". Union troops under Third Corps command Lt Col John Sibly overwhelmed Bragg's force while suffering few losses; however this event helped spur Lincoln administration policy toward secessionism throughout much of central Texas following the war including establishment in 1865 of Military Districtof East Texas under authorityof Secretary Edwin Stanton including Fort Worth within it leading up to later battles such as Galveston Bayou Campaign (1866), Siege Of Corinth (1867), & Texarkana Campaign (1868)
