The Colony, Texas was founded in 1836 by Capt. John A. Flandreau and his men on the banks of the Brazos River. The town quickly grew to become a center for commerce and culture in what is now West Texas. The Navy played an important role in this growth and development, serving as both a source of manpower and a necessary resource for the town’s burgeoning businesses. In 1862, during the American Civil War, The Colony was besieged by Confederate forces under the command of General Robert E. Lee. Thanks to its fortuitous location on high ground near Fort Worth, The Colony was spared any damage or loss of life but nevertheless saw heavy fighting throughout the day and into the night. Despite this widespread damage, The Colony continued to function largely unchanged throughout the war; its citizens were unbroken in their support for their government even when things were tough. After the war ended, many of The Colonies original residents decided to move away from downtown because of new opportunities at better locations within miles of either city limits or because they had grown tired of living under military occupation (a practice that continued until well after World War II). However, some continue to live in downtown today thanks to its rich history and convenient location close to all types of social services and restaurants. The Colony, Texas received its first navy deployment on January 5, 1945 when USS Lexington (CV-64) became the first naval vessel to arrive in the area. The navy deployed two more ships in 1945 and 1946: USS Gerald Ford (CV-8) and USS Constitution (CVA-12). In 1947, the navy activated a third ship: USS John F. Kennedy (CV- 46). The navy deployed six more warships during 1948-1949: USS Coral Sea (CVA - 7), USS Enterprise (CV - 5), USS Hancock (AGS - 1), HMS Warrior (HMS Victory), and HMS Neptune. In 1950, the navy deployed four additional ships: USS Princeton (CVN 73), USS Ticonderoga(CG 51) ,USS John C. Stennis(FSN 7421) . These deployments represented an increase of sixteen warships from 1949 to 1950. The Navy withdrew its naval forces from the area in early 1951 due to budgetary cuts. However, it returned to deploy one ship per year untilactivated on June 30th 1958 with the arrival of the SSGN Polaris class submarine fleet
The Colony, Texas is a small town in Newton County, Texas, United States. It is the location of the largest cotton gin in America. The colony was founded by John Denton in 1836 as a way to escape slave labor on his plantation in Alabama. The colonists were soon joined by other settlers and the town became an important center for cotton production during the 1840s and 1850s. In 1859, the town was renamed Prairie View after Confederate General Robert E. Lee's home north of Austin. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, many of the original colonists moved away and Prairie View changed hands several times until it reverted to its original name in 1893. During World War II, Prairie View served as a bomber base for American forces stationed around Austin.

From its inception until 1840, it was one of only a handful of U.S.-based colonies in what is now Mexico. After 1840 until1848, it functioned as an American protectorate over British-occupied Coahuila y Tejas. In 1848, following Mexican independence from Spain, Austin becamethe capital of Texas and Foust's colony ceased to exist officially but continued to operate under that name until 1870 when it merged into the larger Republic of Texas
