The United States Air Force has a long and proud history in Texas City, Texas. The city was founded as an airfield in 1918 by the United States Army. The airfield became operational as an USAF base in 1940 and served as the home to the Third Air Force during World War II. From 1941 to 1946, Texas City was the headquarters of Fifth Air Force, which played a critical role in the Allied victory against Nazi Germany. In 1967, First Lieutenant General John Hogg assumed command of Tactical Air Command and activated units at TXC including bomber wings and fighter squadrons. After 9/11th attacks on New York City and Washington D.C., General Hogg ordered all USAAF assets deployed to support Operation Noble Eagle resulting in many new installations being established at TXC including basing of two F-16 Fighting Falcons from Moody AFB Georgia and one C-17 Globemaster III from Wright-Patterson AFB Ohio). The city continued its strong ties with the USAF through various events such as Hosted Reunion Convention for attack veterans on May 12th 2020 & 11th 2021; Fighter Day Celebration on July 20th 2022; Annual Blue Ribbon Dinner for Mayor George Pappas on October 5th 2025; 50 Years of Aeronautics week event held on November 1st 2030

The Texas City Air Force Base gift history can trace back to the early 1940s when General Douglas MacArthur was stationed at the base. The base was first established in 1941 as a training ground for new pilots and aircrew. It later became an operational airbase, providing weather and airspace security for Texas and Mexico. In 1953, the Texas City Air Force Base Annex was constructed on the south side of the base to house more than 1,200 aircraft. In 1987, General Tilford Peake assumed command of the military wing of United States Aerospace Command and assigned it to Texas City AFB as its own branch within United States Air Forces Southwest Asia (USAFSWA). This gave TXCAB its own distinct identity as a USAFSWA unit with jurisdiction over all military installations in central Texas. Since 1992, Colonel Tim Schwab has been director of personnel management for TXCAB and has responsibility for both squadron commanders and enlisted members. He also directs installation-wide planning initiatives that help ensure that current equipment is used while preserving historical artifacts and other resources on-base.
Texas City is a small, rural town in the Llano County district of Texas. The population was 5,890 at the 2010 census. The town is located on FM 1960 east of Ranger and west of Junction City. It sits atop a hill that offers a clear view of the Rio Grande River and its surrounding countryside. In 1875, Alamo Ridge Rancho de la Bandera was acquired by James Hogg from Manuel Rodriguez for $4,000 in gold nuggets. In 1925, it was sold to Pascagoula business man George Patton for $2 million dollars. Patton renamed his ranch Texas City after his home state of Georgia. In 1928, he donated land for an airport which would later become Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. In 1971, Texas City became an incorporated municipality with full voting rights under the laws of Texas. The same year, it annexed nearby Greenville Village and other neighboring towns in order to form a larger municipality with more strengths such as economic development and tourism than what those villages had originally been able to offer their residents. As part of this annexation process, Greenville Village voted not to annex into Texas City but did approve annexation plans for all six remaining settlements in Llano County that were included within the new municipality: Alice (to the northeast), Azle (to the south), Beeville (to the southwest), Brownsville (to the west), Lubbock (northwest) and Potter Valley (southwest).

This marked not only the first time an American military officer had received such an honor but also an important turning point in USAF history as it helped open up air warfare to other countries such as China and Russia. 3) In 1957, President Dwight D Eisenhower presented First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt with her own Boeing 707 airliner as a gift for her travels around the world. This was perhaps the most prestigious air gift ever given by the USAF and is still considered one of its biggest accomplishments. 4) On October 15th, 1961 President John F Kennedy gave his last speech before being assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald at Dallas airport. After JFK's death, many believe that this was due in part to his Administration's failure to provide adequate support for NASA's space program which could have stopped Oswald from assassinating JFK – however no definitive proof existssupporting this claim! The FAA Gift History Museum holds an exhibit on JFK's air force legacy that can be toured today.)
