Coffee became popular in England after Admiral John Hawkins discoveredJava in 1596 while on a voyage from India to England. He realized that this new discovery could not only provide spices for English traders but also new sources of revenue if he could find a way to get these goods eastward without stopping at India or China. After tasting Java for himself, Hawkins recommended that his friend Lord Howard carry some beans back to London so that they might be roasted and sold there. This is how coffee became available in London—the very first time it had been exported anywhere outside of Africa! The popularity of coffee continued to grow throughout the eighteenth century thanks largely to two factors: 1) better transportation methods made it possible for people all over Europe to purchase fresh beans fromAfrica; 2) increased literacy among Europeans caused them to start reading newspapers and other printed materials which introduced brewing procedures and other interesting facts about coffee into their homes! Texarkana is a city in Texas, United States. It was founded in 1867 by Alexander Polk and his wife, Cynthia. The population was 23,611 at the 2010 census. Texarkana is the second-largest city in Texas after Dallas. The town of Texarkana was named for General John A. Richardson's military outpost at Fort Worth on the Arkansas River (now west of downtown Texarkana). Richardson had been sent to evaluate the feasibility of a railway linking Fayetteville and Austin through what he considered an open country between those cities. In 1868, he recommended that the US Congress establish a military post at Texarkana to protect settlers from Indian attacks and to provide them with supplies during construction of the Central Pacific Railroad across West Texas. As Richardson knew nothing about rail transportation or land management, his recommendation became law as part of Manifest Destiny which called for US expansion into what were then Mexican territories. In 1870, two brothers - James Wofford and Lewis Hargrave - established themselves as cattle ranchers near present-day Wichita Falls. They named their ranch "Texarkana" after their home state of Texas (then Missouri), where they had been born and raised. Texarkana was founded in 1881 by J.D. Patterson and his brother-in-law, A.G. Barnes. The town grew rapidly due to the trade with the nearby oil fields and agricultural valleys around it. After a fire destroyed most of the town in 1902, Patterson moved his business to Wichita Falls, Texas and began developing what is now Texarkana into a major cotton center during the early 20th century.
