Terrell, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Terrell was Tom Hopkins who arrived in 1827. The townsite was given to John Sayers by the state of Texas in 1872 as part of a land swap with neighboring Austin. The post office was established in 1873 and named after General James Hogg, commander of Fort Worth during the Mexican–American War. In 1876, Terrells founded the first Ku Klux Klan chapter west of the Mississippi River. In 1930, they ratified an ordinance forbidding discrimination on account of race or national origin within their town limits. The original school building (now known as "Olde Town Hall") was used from 1902 until it burned down on November 24, 1957; it had been built for $1,500 and funded by local farmers using money collected from livestock taxes levied on woolen mills operated by nearby Fort Worth businesses. The new High School Building (now known as "Terrell Middle School"), which opened in 1959 and replaced Olde Town Hall, has been home to Terrell's high school students since that time. Terrell is a town in Texas, United States. It was founded in 1849 by Captain John Hogg and his family. The town has since grown to over 40,000 people. Terrell is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The first settler in what is now Terrell was Captain John Hogg, who arrived in 1849 from Kentucky with his family. He erected a small cabin on the banks of the Neches River and named it "Hogg's Landing". In 1850, he married Sarah Boone, who also came from Kentucky. They had one child: John Hogg II (1851-1924). Captain John Hogg's daughter Ann also founded Terrell in 1875 as an agricultural settlement on the edge of present day downtown Terrell. Ann worked as a governess for several years before moving to Texas and starting her own school, which she called "The Academy at Terrell" (later renamed "Fort Worth State College"). She later served as treasurer of Hudspeth County and held other public office including two terms as mayor of Fort Worth. In 1907, Territorial Governor James Kenedy offered land east of Fort Worth for the growth of what would become Dallas County; however, no settlers took up the offer because they were afraid that their homes would be taken away if they did so. In 1912, Kenedy offered another tract for development near Arlington Heights; however again no settlers took up the offer because they were fearful that their homes and businesses would be taken away if they did so. Finally in 1916 when new state boundaries were drawnage Tarrant County to include most of Dallas County but not Hudspeth County; finally some settlers bought into this idea and began developing what became known as "The Townsite." This new town developments included streets being laid out north-south and east-west like those found today while buildings were built primarily around a central square or market place where goods could be purchased or sold without having to go far outside the walls of the town center! This business district quickly became known as The Strip! In 1927 Drayton Wagon Works opened its doors manufacturing wagons used by cotton farmers throughout North Texas giving birth to this industry which continues to this day! Today there are many places throughout TX where you can find examples of these products such as Waco & Round Rock Railway Museum & Railroad Museum . There are even museums dedicated entirely to these particular items located all across America!!
