The first coffee beans were planted in the area that is now Temple, Texas in 1887. The name of the town was changed to Temple in 1896 because of its proximity to Austin, Texas. The first commercial coffee roasters were established in Temple and much of what we know about coffee today comes from these early pioneers. In 1907, a man by the name of Harry Baer started an all-day coffee shop on Main Street in downtown Temple. Today this business is known as Harry's Coffee House and it has been a staple for locals and tourists alike since 1907. Another important figure at this time was Donny Crayton who ran a grocery store next door to Harry's Coffee House.Donny Crayton was responsible for introducing ground whole bean coffees into the local market and helping to drive coffee prices down below $1 per pound! This allowed small businesses like Donny's Grocery Store to compete against larger stores with greater resources. In 1916, Donny sold his store and moved operations westward to Bastrop, Texas where he continued selling Beans until his death in 1977. Throughout the 1920s through 1970s, Temple had multiple movie theaters which played host to films such as "The Grapes Of Wrath", "To All The Boys I've Loved Before" and "A Hard Day's Night". One particular event that stands out from this time period is the infamous 'Pit Stop' incident where several members of the gangsters Al Capone and others stopped at Harry's Coffee House for drinks before continuing their activities outside! It is interesting that despite this notorious incident, no one was ever arrested or charged related thereto! This indicates just how widespread cultural events such as movies were at this time within our community! This type of hospitality continued even after temple closed its doors for good in 1974; people would still come by for cups of Joe during lunchtime at various restaurants around town! These days you can find many cafes throughout Temple serving up gradual drip systems or pour over methods - all while keeping the history Alive!

This company became one of the largest coffee companies in Texas. In 1951, Seligman-Temple Corporation merged with American Coffee Roasters (ACR) to form America's Cup coffee company. ACR continued to operate as an independent subsidiary until it was acquired by Starbucks in 2007.

The group originally consisted of twelve men and two women led by Brigham Young who named their new settlement Mount Carmel after Mount Carmel, one of Israel's seven hills according to Hebrew scripture. Over time, additional settlers joined up and eventually there were forty-six people living at Mount Carmel when it was incorporated as an independent city under the name Temple on November 14, 1916 by vote of its citizens. Today, over 10,000 residents live within easy commuting distance of downtown Temple while keeping much rural character that has helped make this small town unique among its peers. Temple is a small town in Texas, located on the banks of the Trinity River. The population was 1,906 at the 2000 census. It is part of Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Temple was founded in 1836 by John A. Temple and his family as a Methodist church, and became an agricultural center during the mid-19th century. In 1886, it became part of Austin and had its first mayor, Lamar Hunt. It lost its status as an agricultural center after World War II when production shifted to other areas in the state, but regained some importance in the 1990s when then-Governor Rick Perry moved Irving to be within Houston's city limits. The Raynolds familyowned Temple plant until it closed in 2002; however, their descendants still live there today and maintain ownership of most of what remains from that time period including the original school building (1836), cotton gin (1870), sawmill (1893), farmstead (1900), collection barn (1910), post office (1916), and current town hall/firehouse complex which opened in 1978. The first known reference to what is now Temple, Texas was in 1836 in a journey report by Lt. James F. Cooke as he visited the area. He described the area as being "covered with woody hills, populous with Indians, and full of water." The settlement of Temple began soon after this, and according to one account it was founded by two brothers, Joseph and Samuel Temple. They built a cabin on an east-west ridge about six miles north of present day Temple. Their sons John and George also lived there for some time. In 1837 Solomon Price set up a store at the junction of the Red River and Trinity Rivers near present day West Haskellsburg. This location became the nucleus around which later settlements were developed around Temple Creek and other nearby streams. In 1840 John Atherton established himself at what is now South Padre Island in Galveston Bayou near modern day Houston. By 1850 there were over forty residents living in various areas around the creek including Farmington Hills in northwest Harris County; Beaumont in southeast Texas; Spring Branch nearpresentday Clearwater; Lancaster in northeast Galveston County; Woodville on San Jacinto Creek east of Houston; Carrollton on Buffalo Bayou south of Houston; Dickinson on Sabine River east of Austin; Mission Hills on Matagorda Lake near Dallas ; Summit Hill just outside Plano ; Cartersville off I-10 between Arlington and Mesquite ; Carthage Landing off Brazoria Street west of Garland ; Allenton Mountain off FM 360 about 15 miles southwest of Austin . In 1852 Jno.[sic] Hogg moved from London (now Toronto) to come to Texas where he met Capt[ain James] Cook who had been exploring America for 16 years when he met Hogg along the way from Canada via Oregon Trail fame
