The popularity of Starbucks dates back even further though its beginnings can be traced back to 1978 when two employees at the then-new Starbucks Coffee outlet on Saginaw Street in downtown Taylor purchased two bags of Columbianias (now known as Harrods Colombian). They placed them on the counter and started serving customers who would come into the store asking for coffee with cream and sugar. From there on out, Starbucks grew rapidly into one of North America's largest caffeine empires with over 100 stores worldwide by 2006.

Taylor has experienced several waves of annexation by neighboring municipalities over the years; most recently in 2002 when Williamson County annexed part of Lyndonville to form a new municipality called Lyndonville-Taylor County.
