It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Taylor was founded by migrants from Illinois and Wisconsin in 1853 and incorporated as a municipality on July 1, 1858. It lies on the edge of what used to be called "the Great Plains" and straddles both banks of Buffalo Bayou, which forms its border with Houston to the south and Galveston Bay to the north. The community name comes from General Sam Houston's victory over Mexican forces at San Jacinto in 1836, when Taylor was only 8 years old. Taylor's economy has been based primarily on agriculture since it was established, although manufacturing has also become increasingly important in recent decades due to Taft High School's location just east of the city limits (and within easy walking distance for most residents). Manufacturing includes trucking companies, construction equipment dealerships, printing presses and other related businesses; however, much of these have either left or are moving out of Taylor over the last several decades as new technology jobs have taken hold elsewhere in Houston or Galveston County. The downtown core contains many large retailers including Wal-Mart Supercenter (now JCPenney), Sears Roebuck & Company (now Kmart) and Dollar Tree; as well as smaller stores such as Michaels (now Macy's) and JoAnn Fabric store; all three are across Buffalo Bayou from one another across from Interstate 45/US- 75/TX- 59/Waco Roadrunner Highway (formerly I-45 Loop 610). There are also several smaller shopping malls scattered throughout central Taylor along with two golf courses: Montrose Country Club near downtown and Tomball Golf Course located just east of town off FM 1960 near Beltway 810 exit 54A. There are also several parks system located within close vicinity including Dell Park adjacent to US- 90 west of town as well as Bushrod Recreation Area adjacent to IH 35E northwest of town - both contain playgrounds, tennis courts etc., making it an ideal place for children to play while parents shop or relax outside on nice days during summertime!

Taylor, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas and is the seat of Grayson County. The population was 2,511 at the 2010 census, up from 1,857 at the 2000 census. The courthouse in Taylor was built in 1887 and burned down in 1951.
