Taylor, Texas is a small town in east-central Texas that straddles the border of about 12 counties. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area and its largest city, Dallas. When production increased after passage of the Cotton Act of 1886, Hogg proceeded to build two more gins nearby – one on Cypress Creek and one on Buffalo Bayou – making him one of the most prolific cotton ginners in west Texas history. In 1907, he sold his interest in his business to Wm Lumber Company founder Walter Fenton for $1 million dollars ($ as of 2018). Taylor was founded by farmers who came from Illinois in 1827. The first post office in Taylor was established in 1829.
