The history of the Coast Guard in Sweetwater, Texas began with the establishment of a post office and first lighthouse on the Santa Fe River in 1877. The town was founded as a station on the route between Austin and San Antonio. The Coast Guard Station Sweetwater was manned by men from New Mexico until 1912 when it was moved to Sweetwater. In 1915, a hydrographic survey of Texasook place at Sweetwater and due to its location midway along the Gulf coast, it became an important center for navigation. In 1935, there were barracks for 1,200 military personnel stationed atSweetwater while Project CW-3 developed plans to build a new naval base at Corpus Christi. The Coast Guard Station closed in 1936 but reopened in 1941 as part of Project CW-5 which built several new ports along the Gulf coast including Corpus Christi and Galveston. The United States Coast Guard maintains a fleet of 34 cutter boats which patrol coastal waters and interdict smuggling operations. These boats are supplemented by 12 Lifeboat Squadron’s two lifeboats which operate during high tide conditions; one located amidships on each vessel whilethe other is located aft near the bow where they can be used quickly if needed during stormy weather conditions or when large waves are encountered. A number of smaller craft also support various missions such as Search and Rescue (SAR), Customs/Trade Enforcement (C&T) patrols, anti-smuggling measures during hurricane season, buoyancy control for ships moored offshore during navigation events such as dredging or shipbuilding exercises.,and environmental monitoring activities such as flyovers during oil spills or carbon monoxide emissions from power plants

Sweetwater is a small town located in San Marcos County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,063 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settlement in Sweetwater was made on April 3, 1836 by John Wesley Powell and his brother Jameson as a trading post between Mission San Antonio de Padua and Austin. In 1839 Sweetwater served as the terminus for the Santa Fe Trail and became an important trade center for cattle drives from Mexico to the United States. In 1865, William Hogg established what is now known as Hogg's Mill which became one of the largest cotton mills in Texas. The mill operated until 1924 when it burned down due to faulty construction. The present day Sweetwater community began to form around this cotton mill site when ranchers brought their herds of cattle to graze on new land east of Hatchie Creek in 1887. The town name comes from two words - "sweet water" because it was considered a good place for watering horses and "waverly" because many early settlers were English immigrants who moved there from England during that time period. Sweetwater experienced some growth during World War II with soldiers stationed here during D-Day invasion and battles along Iwo Jima and Okinawa Island. As a result, businesses such as defense contractor Browning Arms Company built barracks and other military infrastructure within Sweetwater during that time period including Fort Worth Army Ammunition Plant (now known asFort Bliss). After the war, local businesses struggled to keep up with new economic opportunities associated with places like Dallas or Houston while still retaining some degree of cultural relevance unique to their region such as music festivals held at nearby Hill Country Music Festival Park every summer since its inception in 1976 which has become one of North America's most popular tourist attractions draws more than 150 million visitors annually!
