The Marine Corps has been present in Texas for over 160 years. The first Marines were called to duty in 1846 and have served our state faithfully ever since. In 2013, the Marine Corps deployed a squadron of Marines to stationed at Sugar Land Naval Air Station (LAS). LAS is the largest naval air station in Texas and offers access to more than 100 aircraft which allow Marines the opportunity to deploy worldwide. The deployment of the Squadron was an important event for Texas- as it was one of only two such deployments in that year. It also marked the first time that marines had been stationed at LAS since 9/11. Since then, LAS has become a major hub for marine operations in Texas and across America. The squadron's visit also included visits to Corpus Christi, Brownsville, San Antonio, McAllen and Austin!
