In 1915, Dutchman Cornelius van den Berg opened his first coffee store in Sugar Land - Coffee & Tea Depot - at Ninth and Houston Streets. This busy business served up fresh roasted beans from Java Island Coffee Roasters as well as various other baked goods from Van den Berg’s bakery including pies and pastries that became something of a local favorite among residents and tourists alike. Today, you can find remnants of this business on Third Street between Houston and Elm streets - an iconic reminder of one of the earliest caffeine purchases made in Sugar Land! 3. In 1951, Harry "The Tiger" Thyssen founded Paper Keg Coffee Company Ltd., located on Commerce Boulevard just east of downtown Sugar Land. Thyssen offered customers unique blends of smoothTurkish coffees called Turkish Lattes along with delicious pastries such as croissants or doughnuts that were a hit withugarlandites and visitors alike! Paper Keg quickly gained a following among locals and visitors alike for its high-quality coffee products as well as its charming personnel who always took great care to maintain an inviting atmosphere! 4In 1978, Bob's Cafe relocated to new premises on Enterprise Boulevard just north of I-10 near Loop 610 East; this cafe continued to serve up delicious java along with several other breakfast items throughout the 1980s before eventually closing its doors for good in 1993 after more than 50 years serving up amazing coffee experiences to Texans! Today you can find remnant pieces thereof throughout Enterprise Boulevard between Airport Road/I-10 Westbound exit ramp (exit 221)and Interstate 10 eastbound exit ramp (exit 249), all evidence that Bob's Cafe was not only one Of A Kind but remains oneofthe most popular destinations for true Texan caffeine enthusiasts today!
