The Coast Guard in Sugar Land has been providing a wide range of services to the community for over 100 years. Today, the Coast Guard provides law enforcement, search and rescue, environmental protection, health and safety assistance, and more. The first Coast Guard station in Sugar Land was established in 1898. The station was located on the Houston Ship Channel near downtown. In 1912, the Coast Guard Station at Montrose was moved to Sugar Land and is still used today. In 1922, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice moved from San Antonio to Pearland and founded the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Headquarters building on Richardson Boulevard which housed both the State Police Bureau and the Coast Guard Office of Security Services. The Headquarters building is now called Tower One inside Terminal 5 at Port Arthur Regional Airport. In 1933, when Hurricane Carla struck Texas’ coastlines with destructive force, local authorities requested federal aid to help with emergency response activities. On October 15th 1933 President Franklin D Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9802 which created FEMA as a national agency that would provide disaster relief such as rescues and repairs to damaged infrastructure across America. As a result of this order FEMA began providing financial support for state coastal guard agencies throughout America through its National Emergency Relief Program (NERP). On November 3rd 1936President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 12919 which authorized Federal funding for construction of state coastal guard stations along American Samoa by converting airfields into naval airfields designated Naval Air Station Pearl Harbor-Hickory Point within 24 hours following notification from United States Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Husband Kimmel that there were enemy submarines operating off American Samoa waters north of Apia Atoll searching for food supplies destined for Japan during World War II. This action helped contribute significantly to military victory against Japanese forces during World War II which ended in 1945 with Japan's surrender at Tokyo Bay under United States jurisdiction

Sugar Land is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas, on the Gulf Coast of Houston County. It was founded in 1835 as part of an effort to spruce up the town after it had been abandoned by its previous owners, who were exiled from Spain for their participation in the Mexican Revolution. The name "Sugar Land" comes from sugarcane that was being grown nearby at the time. The city proper was established in 1836 when Major John Hogg and his men founded a post office and store near what is now downtown Sugar Land. The first mayor of Sugar Land was James Kenedy, who served from 1838 to 1840. The first school in Sugar Land was built in 1840 by Mrs. Anna Bigham and taught elementary school until 1847 when Drury High School opened. In 1870, Captain Wm Sayers incorporated the Town of Sugar Land with a population of about 100 people; he became its first mayor four years later. In 1907, Sugarland City Hall burned down and rebuilt on State Highway 610 West; it still stands today as an important local government building. In 1942, during World War II, the city became home to one of America's largest air- raid shelters known as "The Fortress". After World War II, Sugarland experienced growth due to oil well drilling operations and other industrial developments which created numerous jobs throughout the cityscape but also caused significant environmental destruction as various heavy industry used large amounts of water and chemicals that contaminated many areas within town limits for decades afterwards (see: cleanup efforts). By 1990s most residents had relocated away from major job centers while parts of town experienced limited or no economic development or use since then save occasional retail redevelopment mixed with some light residential uses/new dwellings being erected on older industrial sites around old industrial sites). Today much less remains than it did prior to this period although there are some small pockets remaining primarily around Dudley Avenue where new housing has been constructed up against a large Confederate artillery battery park once occupied by Union troops during the American Civil War (university students study cannonball racing at nearby Fort Sam Houston Museum ). It should be noted that over time two versions have emerged regarding how "Sugar Land" came to become such an appellation - one claims that General Antonio López de Santa Anna referred to sugar plantations east of San Jacinto River as "Los Magueyes", hence "the land between Tomball Bayou and White Oak Bayou"; while another story suggests Spanish explorer Don Fernando de Alvarado landed at what is now called Doña Ana Beach on April 6th 1541 seeking passage back home via Santa Fe Trail before his exploration into Central America led him ultimately establishing Brazoria County seat Midland instead) - both versions share common elements viz.; early 19th century Hispanic settlers found saltpeter mines along Ibañez Creek west & north dune area while they traded commodities with Native Americans & slave traders; early 20th century US Army Corps Of Engineers began hydraulic fracturing 1 million barrels per day natural gas wells off shoreTexoma Estates subdivision just south side bayou/river mouthPRESTON TEXAS high school renamed Corpus Christi High School after Govind Ballweg decided not to challenge state supreme court decision re: annexationistleVineland Park west side creek bordering Clear Lake
