Stafford, Texas is a small town located in the Hill Country of central Texas. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It lies on I-35 just east of Austin and south of San Antonio. Stafford is named after Major General James B. Stafford who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as Commanding General during the American Civil War. The first humans to live in this area were nomadic hunter-gatherers who hunted game and gathered plants and fruits from local areas. When European explorers discovered this region in 1719 they began to explore it for potential new land to settle. In 1836, when Stephen F. Austin founded the Republic of Texas, he selected Stafford as one of his counties because it had good soil and timber resources that could be used for building fortifications and other military purposes. The city of Stafford was established on November 4, 1839 by order of President Andrew Johnson as part of a plan to create more townships withinJohnson’s Texas Plan which aimed to reduce slave trade through land purchases by federal government officials. In 1861, following the US Civil War, General James Burcham captured Fort Bowie near present day Tyler while fighting against Confederate forces at what is now Kelly Field outside Austin; this event led to increased attention paid to Stafford County due to its strategic location between two large Confederate armies encampments on opposite ends of the state (Austin and Dallas). When Houston seceded from Texas in 1870, much effort was directed towards trying to find a way for Houstonians living east of Buffalo Bayou (now downtown Houston) not affected by that decision but without success until 1915 when an act by Governor James Hogg allowed all Texans withinHouston proper – including those living east of Buffalo Bayou – under one roof with equal rights guaranteed them by law regardless of their race or social status before then they were effectively segregated into “colored” or “white” neighborhoods based upon zip code boundaries at that time When World War II began everything changed for Stafford residents when Japanese Americans were rounded up during Operation Daini no Kenjiro—the largest roundupof Japanese Americans ever conducted—and sent into concentration camps located throughout Oklahoma Territory northward into Arkansas Canyon near present day Tulsa however most people involved with evacuating these people managed to escape before capture or execution took place After World War II many troops returned home from Europe but there remained a large number stationed overseas such as 25% serving in Japan during 1946-7 alone As women entered into full participation in American society beginning in the late 19th century many women decided to move westward into newly opened territory such as what is now eastern New Mexico Territory which included parts of southeastern Texas including Stafford . Thereafter many women married men who moved west also making townspeople along I-35 their new family members Many innovations occurred during this period like electric light being introducedto some areas where gas lighting had been used previously such as rural communities around Lubbock TX . However like so many other aspects related specifically thereto it would take another generation for electricity really becoming prevalent hereaboutsometime after World War II ended ..
